McCaptcha is coal.McCaptcha is one of the in-house CAPTCHA systems used on the Sharty. It was developed and put into use seemingly in response to the my transbian ass 'cordbot. The input method is to click on a blurry soyjak and type something into the text box. According to NuDev, there is also a "trust system" that made posting more convenient for 'teens, similar to 4chan's ReCaptcha. It is infamous for being borderline unreadable for some users, and BTFO'ing newfags by including forced, obscure variants.

Roughly around the time that Root was welcomed on board as admin, a Discord user was running a botnet similar to Babybot to ravage multiple boards on the Sharty. This prompted the rapid development of McChallenge. The 'cord bot was shut down by its implementation, but the captcha itself annoyed soyteens. A "trust system" was introduced made the captcha more convenient, but it was almost immediately rolled back several times.
For general purposes, the McCaptcha was replaced by the McChallenge, a very similarly named captcha. Following the introduction of its successor, McCaptcha was removed from most boards, starting with /soy/. During this phase, it stopped being updated.
As of June of 2024, /q/ and /nate/ are the only non-locked boards the McCaptcha remains on. Due to concerns over botting, it was added to /uni/, during its brief existence in August. This proved the McCaptcha continued to be useful to Froot's administration, despite its obsolescence.
On August 30th, 2024, McCaptcha was added to McChallenge, creating a captcha-ception.
McCaptcha is currently used during the following scenarios:
- When making a new post on the Sharty (without a gempass)
- When visiting the booru from an untrusted IP
As of January 2025, it has been completely abandoned outside the 'ki.
As of 08/10/2025, the Captcha has returned on the Sharty, but only appears when making a post with a new IP address.
