VPNs are carbon iron from the lukewarm surface of Mulattopurgatorium.
>If the VPN is closer to the server
This is NOT an ad, soyim.

A Virtual Private Network [VPN] is a service used to conceal your IP address. V'PNs work by sending your data to a proxy server, which then forwards your data to the destination server. Most VPNs also feature various data encryption methods to add an additional layer of security from bad actors snooping on your internet traffic.[This is mostly relevant on public networks]

There are also more advanced VPNs which send your data through multiple servers to ensure maximum security and the lowest likelihood of being backtraced.

VPNs can be both paid access, which typically give you access to more countries and higher data rates, or free, which give you less access, with most free VPNs only being able to connect to countries such as Poland, Finland, Germany, UK[why the fuck do you want to larp as this surveillance state?], Canada, and America with either limited data rates and/or a data cap.

Uses[edit | edit source]

>If the VPN is closer to the server

On the rest of the Internet[edit | edit source]

VPNs were originally for bypassing SLF censorships which makes them sometimes a must in certain countries that restrict their people's access to the internet. People in less rulecucked countries like America use a VPN to feel a little safer browsing on public networks like McDonalds WiFi or however the burger is fried.

On Imageboards[edit | edit source]

Due to the nature of imageboards, ban evasion, datamining, and IP leaking are very common things.[this is more of an issue on splinters or if you make quote's clitty leak]

Using a VPN solves nearly all of these issues most of the time. VPNs are also helpful during raids to evade IP-bans or geofencing so we can constantly come back if the target site doesn't have any anti-VPN measures.

VPNs are also often used by hostile offsite groups to spam coal and other vantayellow brimstone on the catty and more generally to demoralize 'teens. They were infamously used to spam 'P on the sharty until the media approval system thankfully wiped that out.

Recommendations[edit | edit source]

These are actual ads for non-sharty websites. Make sure to take everything with a grain of soy.
All the big VPNs you see shilled by JewTubers (e.g. NordVPN, Surfshark, and ExpressVPN) are literal spyware (((mossad))) honeypots and should NOT be trusted.
Do NOT use TuxlerVPN unless you like pedophiles using your IP to post 'P.
>You will use our newest spyware privacy tool that we paid JewTubers to shill, because you just will ok??

ProtonVPN[edit | edit source]

Proton VPN is good, fast and private, but it's overpriced as hell if you don't want to use the shitty free version. It costs $10 a month for the "plus" version and $13 a month for Proton Unlimited which includes the VPN plus Proton Mail, Drive, and Calendar or something, though you do get a discount for buying a year at a time. Also the United’TubeTrannyPedophiles spammed 'P on the sharty using this VPN, if that matters.

Mullvad[edit | edit source]

Mullvad is very good too and it's more reasonably priced at 5€ a month, but it has fewer servers to choose from. It's seen as more private doe because you can mail them cash[1] instead of using a credit card or something and because you don't have to provide any personal information when you register an account. They don't keep logs of your connections in storage, making it impossible for law enforcement to collect data on their users.

One famous instance of this no-logs policy being proven true was in 2023 when Mullvad was raided by the Swedish Police, who then left empty handed as no evidence was found.[2][3][4] Therefore making Mullvad a Swedish win.

Windscribe[edit | edit source]

Windscribe is a Canadian Win VPN company that has some good free VPN servers with many options to choose from but unfortunately has limited data, once again establishing superiority over poorsluttas. The "pro" version is surprisingly cheap with $9 a month and $69 a year. Also their twitter admin is a heckin' transphobic bigot or something.

VPN Super[edit | edit source]

VPN Super: Free for appleGODS, just a short ad randomly when you try to connect.[It is not known how VPN Super complies with law enforcement requests doebiet]

Tor[edit | edit source]

See also: Tor

Tor or The Tor Project contrary to popular belief is not a VPN, as it does not obscure your IP but instead just routes your internet traffic through multiple volunteer driven nodes, making tracing where the traffic originated from near impossible. Tor is free and is used by countless journalists and CIA operatives to obfuscate their internet traffic and not get caught. It is however incredibly slow.

For the most schizophrenic of you, combining Tor with another VPN service it is a great choice for doing things that will get the glowies on your ass. It should be noted that this does NOT make you immune from being traced if you do not follow proper OPSEC guidelines.

Self-hosting[edit | edit source]

If you don't trust any providers, you could host your own VPN on a server in a data center somewhere. This may be more easily traceable for the glowies thoughever unless you take extra precautions.

Cautions[edit | edit source]

If someone does something problematic on a VPN IP, that IP may be flagged, causing problems for everyone else using the same IP. It is very much recommended you don't do stupid shit on the sharty while using a VPN because it might cause someone to get wrongfully banned for a post they didn't even make.[ev&oe all VPN users just hop to another server if one is banned]

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • VPNs are permanently banned on the Booru (unless you have trusted class or above).
