Steganography conspiracy

Anyone who's a little more tech-savvy can dive a little deeper into this? How this thing has just went unnoticed for years is just baffling — Preceding unsigned comment added by 191.136.50.127 (talk • contribs)

I did a little digging and found that the pepe with the lines under the eye likely originates from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMrUMxQ3eXQ (at 0:29), not the 2016 article. One theory I have is that the user who uploaded it to kym noticed the lines and just drew over them in paint with the background color. What makes me think this is the fact that if you open the kym image and zoom in close to where the lines are on the other version, you can kind of see the start of a line budding out of the top of the edge of the eye. What I still dont know is how these lines were produced and why, my guess would be some kind of image editing error? Maybe an old compression algorithm? I dont know enough about compression but if you just do a simple experiment by compressing a jpg, you'll see that nothing of this scale ever happens until the image itself looks like a garbled mess of different colored rectangles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~Chud73829 (talk • contribs)
I decided to check this out as well and I was able to find a Pepe with "steganography lines" that was uploaded all the way back in June 2010 [1], and while I was searching the archive there were countless dead images, so it probably originated earlier than that. Looking through the archives has really made me doubt the steganography theory in this article, since "compromised Pepes" seem to have been popular (even Moot posted one [2] in 2012) long before 4chan was considered extremist, when intelligence agencies would have little reason to track 4chan memes. The only example of Pepe steganography being used that this article gives is in the Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot where it supposedly was used to catch the plotters, but that doesn't really make sense. If the FBI were able to scan the images they post that would mean they already have access to the chats. The official narrative is that they used informants, and that makes more sense than tracking Pepes. The origin of these lines is still very bizarre doe. ~Chud41730 (talk) 23:04, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Use froglaugh version as main pic

[edit source]

Neutralfrog is SNCA at this point, use a pepelaugh version as the top picture without buster (I'm lazy so I'm not doing it myself) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Negrocado Allahcado (talk • contribs)

This page is about the traditional pepe though. Tar (talk | email) 13:05, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's more about pepe in general right? Besides pepelaugh without baxter is still pepe and is way more relevant nowadays, maybe could do both with the selection option
