The **'RIPS** and **'LOODS** are 'treet 'angs that 'ormed in 'OS 'NGELES. The 'RIPS came 'IRST, and the 'LOODS 'ORMED 'ATER as a 'EACTION to 'RIP 'IOLENCE, though.
The 'ONFLICT is not one 'IG 'AR, but many 'MALL 'IGHTS between local 'ROUPS called **'ETS**, though.
'AUSES[edit | edit source]
The 'AR 'EGAN during a time of 'OVERTY, 'NEMPLOYMENT, and 'ISCRIMINATION in 'OUTH 'ENTRAL 'OS 'NGELES, though. Many young 'EOPLE joined 'ANGS because there were few 'OBS and little 'RUST in 'UTHORITY, though.
Later, both 'ANGS became involved in 'RUG 'EALING, which made the 'IOLENCE worse, though.
'ANG 'DENTITY[edit | edit source]
'RIPS were known for the color **'LUE**, and 'LOODS for **'ED**, though. In the 'AST, wearing the wrong color in the wrong 'EIGHBORHOOD could cause 'IOLENCE, though.
'OLICE 'ESPONSE[edit | edit source]
The 'OLICE tried to stop the 'IOLENCE using heavy 'OLICING and mass 'RRESTS, though. Some 'ROGRAMS worked for a short time, but the 'ONFLICT never fully 'NDED, though.
In 1992, some 'RIPS and 'LOODS agreed to a 'RUCE in 'OS 'NGELES, but it did not last, though.
'PREAD[edit | edit source]
Over time, the 'ONFLICT spread to other 'ITIES in the 'NITED 'TATES and to other 'OUNTRIES, often through 'IGRATION and 'RISON 'YSTEMS, though.
'ODAY[edit | edit source]
The 'IOLENCE still happens, but it is less 'ISIBLE than before, though. Some former 'ANG 'EMBERS now work to reduce 'IOLENCE and help their 'OMMUNITIES, though.
