the following is a TRVTHNVKESuperMuttGoyim4's decline in quality happened when they started to add a actual story to things. The idea of SMG4 is so outlandish and silly on its own that adding a actual story with charterers and plots were actually suppose care about just simply is not possible because of the outlandish stupidity and absurdity established in the videos that we've grown to associate with smg4. Trying to incorporate the absurdity of smg4 and add a story that were suppose to take seriously does not work. As such it comes off as cringy, like really cringy. Smg4 was already a bit cringy due to the big long text and incorporating a plot about Nintendo characters, something that screams mild autism. Along with self insertion. But it still had charm and funny moments. The adding of a story like "bobs rapper arc" and the "Waluigi arc" just comes across as really clingy and corny that screams "autism" due to the reasons I mentioned. they all expect you to take the show seriously, and have characters with "actual arcs and objectives." your suppose to care about these people with a connection, with scenes of them feeling sad or at there "lowest point" expecting you to feel sad aswell. Or have us take the story seriously and relate to the characters and treat them like actual people from a serious movie or show. Expecting us to forget that this is a show where Mario literally sticks his dick out at random and gets shot hundreds of times, burned alive and killed more than most mass shooters as a joke(this is also a major reason. alot of the "arcs" expect us to treat death seriously while in other videos its treated as nothing more than a gag). An actual story with seriousness just does not work due to the absurdity of smg4 as it is.
Much like the Simpsons, the whole idea of smg4 had begun to become a bit stale. gmod machinma was funny in 2010-2017. However now its become a bit dead and stale. That is not to say that it cant work because it can. However alot of the jokes and memes back in 2016-2017 era internet just arent that funny to anyone besides people with nostalgia or people who remember those times fondly(there are some old jokes that are still funny today though. but your insane if you think that all of them still land to people who have never been in the machinma/gmod scene or watched smg4 back then.). The old style of SMG4 that people want SMG4 to return to simply does not appeal to new viewers and also has gotten a bit fatiguing to old viewers as well if you take out the nostalgia elements.
^ Meds (kind of). A retarded machinima getting deep lore can be pulled off as seen by seasons 6-13 of Red vs Blue and Skibidi Toilet. But SMG4 fails at this not only because it has the same soy reddit style and tranime OCs of the nu-bloopers, but it's also poorly written shite that tries to be emotional and leaks onto the normal videos. Also you can successfully bring back old machinimas if you're creative and funny, which also applies to pre-tumblr exodus memes. Also move this wordswordswords to the talk page
^double meds. The difference was that with red vs blue season 1-5 it was not totally outlandish. There was no character dying and then coming back as if everything is fine(at least church came back as a ghost but not really) and it is not off totally off the rails with characters not pulling random huge shit outta there pockets or any of the crazy shit that had no reasoning like old smg4(not that its bad infact its great). That is why inserting something serious into the story worked. Because there was no plotholes from adding a serious story to explain things, and the serious side of stuff like the freelancers explained the silliness like church being a ghost or why they were in a canyon all that time. Smg4 was also already a bit cringey on its own before but still held up with its charm and creativity + funny memes. Red vs blue did not have that problem.
^ You're probably right, I've never seen red vs blue outside season 1 a few weeks ago. I'm sure SMG4 could do a good/crazy explanation for why characters can come back from goofy deaths but axol can't walk away from getting sliced. Too bad he's a dumb nigger retard thoughbeit
^ You should definitly watch it its really fucking good. especially seasons 6-10. seasons 8-13(except 11 as there is no animation. still good season though) have some of the best fight scenes I have ever seen unironically and years later I still think about them and the amount of inspiration they have given me. but also explaining so much of SMG4 would A take a very long and boring exposition dump. B would not make sense(there is no way you can describe how mario gets mutliated, burned, has his face stretched so far with faceposer, or almost any smg4 episode rationally) and have it be a good explanation and not very obvious retconning . if anything explaining all of that would make things worse and hurt the quality of the other episodes. Its to outlandish to be explained like in red vs blue.
^ trve i guess. i only defend the concept of a story on paper because i make mario bloopers and they have lore too, even though it's completely different (basically all of my machinimas are set in the 2040s after earth was turned into a warzone for 15 years with hyperboreans & skibidi toilets supporting chuds fighting kikes who are supported by troonslop characters, with the chuds winning. also florida is the mushroom kingdom in an alternate history where the papal states cololized italy and a bunch of alien shit happened in the 1800s.) and i want to make a prequel movie in 2028 about smg4 being a satanic demonic communist dictator who leads an army of george droids and inklingmutts against the catholic & spaghetti paganist nintendians. it would mostly focus on kino action & the humor but there would be like a 1-5 serious moments where fm & x die.
