It is clear to us all by now that the current state of the 'log is tragic. In the last week, there has been a distinct lack of gems, spadeson spam (cord bait), pouspam (forced by one person), mindless low-effort bait, irrelevant NAS, no soyquotes, etc. Completely sovlless. This is what being soft has given us.
This recent "anti-rulecucking" approach at moderation has FAILED. In the last few weeks, this site has been perhaps the worst it has EVER been. Some soyentists may argue that this is the culmination of years of inevitable decay due to the core /qa/ userbase being replaced with xitter newGODS, but if you look back to some of the gemmier years of this site, you may notice that there has been a noticeable change on the enforcement of certain rules, which relate to the recent problems that we have had.
For all of their faults, previous admins like Küz were effective in maintaining the site because they worked to identify and deal with the core problems facing it. When the cord spammed racebait all over the 'log with the sole purpose of demoralising and delegitimising the site, Küz banned Spadeson and took action against the hostile cords. In the past, when obvious low-effort bait was posted that added nothing to the quality of the site and only served to demoralise, it was moved to >>>/bait/. As a result, the quality of the 'log was substantially higher than it is today.

Baitspammers will always respond to criticism of their activities in the exact same manner, and our admins seem to sympathise with this, given that they are vehemently against banning any forms of bait (except lennon, even though some people actually liked him and he was semi-IAS) and simply advise the users to troonquote it. What they don't seem to realise is the knock-on effect that this bait spam has on the quality of the site.
The reality is that baitspammers by nature are obsessed and use the site more than the average 'teen. Certain prolific baiters can be seen to post bait for hours on end every day, often participating in coordinated discord servers. As a result, whenever this bait is allowed, it will make up the majority of the 'log at any given time. This is demoralising to the average soyteen- even if they do not fall for the bait, they will have less interest in browsing the 'log if it is always filled with things designed to annoy and enrage them, rather than gems for them to enjoy. This not only reduces pph in the long term by effectively providing a push factor to drive old 'teens to leave the site as well as deterring newGODS, but also reduces the quantity of gems produced, as why would a soyteen spend the time and effort on crafting a gem, only for it to receive less engagements than low-effort bait and be slid off the 'log by a spammer? A constant stream of bait creates an angrier, less gemmy party, much like how all of the ragebait you may encounter on social media and in the mainstream media platforms stokes polarisation and political division.
A more hands-off approach was reasonable under Soot back when this site was still young, as it had no real opponents and was fairly united. 'Jakking was a novel concept and people were focused on actual soyposting and creating gems. It was a high trust soyciety- rules could be more lax because there weren't many cords and offsiters hellbent on destroying the site at first. That is not the reality today, and those who oppose "rulecucking" should realise that such policies would only accelerate the degradation of the site if implemented now as those who oppose this site and its users/admins would abuse the trust placed in them
If the admins have any desire to return the quality of the site back to what it once was, and to prevent its terminal decline, there must be action taken towards the massive amounts of bait and spam constantly churned out by users who are fundamentally against this site and its userbase. It is regrettable that we would ever need to have more strict enforcement of the rules, but this is an inevitability for any site once it grows to a sufficient size (hence why once loosely moderated sites like 4cuck tend towards more restrictive moderation as they grow and age).
I propose that:
-The most egregious, hated and disruptive bait be outright banned. Spadeson and racebait in general should be banned, and it is clear that this is the will of the site since the thread to ban Spadeson is still up and is at almost 2000 replies.
-Low effort bait should be moved to >>>/bait/ instead of being allowed to clutter up the 'log, to make way for gems.
-Punishments should be harsher. Prolific namefags should be banned for extended periods. 4-8 hrs is not enough; repeat offenders should be permanently banned. Serial baiters and spammers should also be banned. -Take action against spammers. I am personally against the idea of allowing catty wiping on >>>/soy/ anyways, as it is almost always one person or a cord trying to force their brim (e.g pou) but if it is not to be outright banned then at least identify when it is only one person (or a hostile community) doing it and enforce punishments.
