Archive of Our Own, also known as AO3, is a site used for the sharing of fanfiction. It has close to zero rules, only removing works that either plagiarize, aren't fanwork, or break US laws; some praise the site for these rules, while others hate it for these rules, and even call to just shut it down.

History

Naomi Novik, a co-founder of the site, felt like other fandom spaces were too limiting, therefore she decided to create a largely unmoderated space. She shipped Sam and Dean Winchester, which is an incestuous ship between two brothers.

The Bad

"RPF"

RPF - Real Person Fiction between Kids, and even between adults and kids, is exactly what it sounds like and openly allowed by AO3. One can freely write about how a child gets 'aped. If you are the one being written about, you cannot do anything about it because "it's only fiction".

Gender of AO3 users

From normal adults doing normal adult things, to raping and murdering little kids, who are somehow the rapist's children, and then fucking Adolf Hitler himself - that is the range of content allowed on AO3.

"Dead Dove: Do Not Eat"

Extremely antimatter genre.

The Good

There isn't much of it, but some examples include

• Freedom of expression, so you can write chuddy fics about raping George Floyd
• The UI isn't terrible and is highly customizable
• Surprisingly, a very small amount of the site are trannies. It is possible that some lie about it, but trannies are popular for not hiding it much.
