Soyjak Wiki:The Template Question

And (You) enjoyed it. |
This page is meant to judge templates based on usecase.
What is usecase?[edit | edit source]
Usecase is a set of factors that determines the purpose of a template. Templates with a good usecase can be used on many articles, without another template being more suitable. Templates with a bad usecase can only be used on a few articles, usually because there is a competing template that has a better usecase. Sometimes, templates have a niche usecase that isn't necessarily bad. A niche usecase also applies to a few articles, but the template in question has a good reason to be on those few articles.
Gems[edit | edit source]
Very few problems, if any. Strongest usecases.
Template Name | Template Link | Reasoning |
---|---|---|
Gem | Template:Gem | + Ubiquitous and simple: Marks good articles.
- No problems |
Stub | Template:Stub | + Ubiquitous and simple: Marks stubs
- Arguably there's some overlap with {{Coal}} |
Template wrapper | Template:Template wrapper | + Used to alleviate template spam, therefore really useful in that regard
- Arguably a bandaid |
4chan | Template:4chan | + Very strong usecase for 4-chan related articles
+ Very little overlap |
Caca | Template:Caca | + Usecase to define a person/topic trough cacaspeak
+ Takes up very little space + bwaby spuk fooby |
NotAStub | Template:NotAStub | + Strong and specific usecase for very short articles that'd be considered stubs if there was still any info left that could be added |
Iron[edit | edit source]
These templates have some problems, but they're acceptable due to a good usecase.
Template Name | Template Link | Reasoning |
---|---|---|
Coal | Template:Coal | + Originally had no problems, due to being similar to {{Gem}}
- Used to be simple and reliable, but it now has many templates stealing its usecase for denoting low quality articles |
Topaz | Template:Topaz | + Strong usecase for gemmy articles or topics written by unmedicated schizos
+ Nice, clean, eco-friendly, and compact. |
Vantawhite | Template:Vantawhite | + Works really well on certain articles
- Redundant with the much older and prettier Gemerald template which already filled its usecase for much longer - Visually distracting. Arguably an ugly template |
Gem that saved the Party | Template:Savedtheparty, Template:Partysavingtext | + Clean and compact
+ In theory it has a strong usecase for topics that have saved the Sharty from total annihilation - In practice it's too overused (it's not) diminishing its usecase and status, especially when put on pages for topics that didn't have a significant impact on the sharty in the first place, let alone a significant part in saving the Sharty - Should probably be stripped from all the articles it's on except the absolute gemmiest of events |
Gegbull | Template:Gegbull | + Versatile and simple usecase, covers all sharty bogeymen
+ Could hypothetically alleviate template spam on bogeymen articles - Often seen in template spam clusters - Usecase currently has some overlap with many templates |
Gooner | Template:Gooner | + Simple usecase: Subject is extremely addicted to porn
- Overlaps with other "gegbull" templates |
ACK! | Template:ACK! | + Simple usecase: Subject is deceased
- Somewhat sensationalist - Contributes to template spam in some cases |
Religious templates | Template:Halal, Template:Haram, Template:Kosher, Template:NotKosher, Template:God | Usecase: Topic is judged by certain religions
- Usecases are very similar to each other - Often spammed together on pages about the wicked, when Template:God alone would suffice - Template:God is also seen frequently in template spam clusters |
Vantapurple | Template:Vantapurple | + Used on articles/topics which are meant to be confusing
- Extremely niche and vague use case, only present on 5 pages
- |
Gigastub | Template:Gigastub | - Usecase: Same as Template:Stub, but more extreme stubs
+ Can arguably be used in specific circumstances + Despite being one of chud50002's templates, it's important enough that editors actually use it - can't be useless - Competing usecase with Stub - Usually takes up over 70% of the article, due to its massive size and the article being a "gigastub" - Frequently appears on low-quality articles that aren't going anywhere |
Aspie | Template:Aspie | + Supposedly simple usecase: Subjects that have autism or Asperger's
- Usecase has some overlap with other "gegbull" style templates |
Clittycel | Template:Clittycel | - Confusing usecase that seems no different from other "gegbull" templates |
Connections-style templates | Template:Jarty, Template:Shemmy, Template:Discord, Template:Twitter, Template:Euro, Template:Failtrolls, Template:IFunny, | + Have some niche usecases
- Practically duplicates of each other - Often appear in template spam clusters. Their vertical size does not help at all |
Nuts | Template:Nuts | + Has a use case for absurd topics and Squirreljak-related pages
- Way too fucking big. Takes up over a fifth of a screen on a standard 1920x1080 monitor, excluding browser tab/URL/bookmark bars. |
GPT/AI | Template:AI | +Has a clear usecase (marking articles as written by ChatGPT or some other AI)
- Overdesigned for its purpose and also attempts to use missing files - The way it's written as of addition to this list praises people for using LLMs to write articles instead of making actual quality contributions. |
Coal[edit | edit source]
These templates have many problems, including a bad usecase that overlaps. They ought to be removed or overhauled if they're salvageable.
Template Name | Template Link | Reasoning |
---|---|---|
Supernova/Singularity | Template:Supernova, Template:Singularity | + Used on articles for something which transcends even the shiniest vantawhite gemerald/light-absorbing vantablack brimstone
- Way too much going on, you have to squint to read it clearly because someone was overdoing text effects - Fully redundant with Vantawhite/Antimatter, respectively. Both of which are already meant to represent the best and worst pages -Also doesn't match the mineral theme going on for the rest of the gem/coal mineral rating spectrum |
Dust | Template:Dust, Template:DustShort | - Usecase is supposed to imply that the page's subject is forgettable SNCA but for it to be present someone has to care in the first place |
CIANWO | Template:CIANWO | - why yes we definitely need one template to take up an entire horizontal screen and 1/6th of your screen vertically (on desktop) while being laden with bright colors and glow effects
- also usecase is too weak, pretty sure there's other templates for similar subjects |
