KEK is a term used by 4chan users and Sharty frogposters to represent amusement, being their equivalent to "LOL", as well as the signature laugh of Pepe the frog.
History[edit | edit source]
The term started being used around the late 2000s in reference to how the word "lol" was encrypted as "kek" on the game World of Warcraft when playing as an opposing faction.[1] Although also used elsewhere, the term only retained popularity around 4chan, where it was shared sitewide and became sort of a symbol of the uniqueness of 4cuck culture, and the site is pretty much the only place where it's still remembered and shared nowadays (even doe 4cuck immigrants on other sites like Twitter use it). The term also started being associated with Pepe once users noticed that the Egyptian God Kek also happens to be depicted as a frog.[2] Since then, both Pepe and the word Kek have become some of the primary symbols associated with 4chan, which reinforces the bond between them.
Usage on the Soysphere[edit | edit source]

Kek was often used in the Soysphere in its infancy, but soyteens eventually decided to create their own term to distance themselves from 4cuck culture after the fall of /qa/, creating a term that was unique to their own site. This would eventually lead to the term "GEG" being chosen, and it has survived to this day. "Geg" has been continuously used on Soysphere sites, leading to the previous term falling out of usage, and as such, most of the time "kek" is only said on the 'sphere by newfag immigrants who don't know about geg, people engaging in frogposting or those creating bait by pretending to be offsiters.
Topkek[edit | edit source]
Topkek is a brand of muffins from Turkey,[3] which was shared as meme on the /s4s/ board, leading to "topkek" being used sometimes as a synonym or augmentative to kek on 4chan. The muffins themselves are known to be some of the most refined and exquisite pieces of culinary from the Turks, and certainly aren't goyslop. Such fine European dishes are only reserved to the most aryan amongst us.
Kekistan[edit | edit source]
Kekistan is a fictional country known as a refuge and UNESCO site for the culture of Frogoogoogagas.[4] Kekistan is remembered as one of the oldfag symbols and is occasionally used by oldfag larpers despite the meme being irrelevant after 2017. The novelty of the concept itself made it recognizable and still used in a few tosses from soy culture that reference old 4chan, although very rare. Kekistan posting received increased glowie monitoring after some teenager murderer had a kekistan flag on his facebook profile, making another meme fall victim to association with criminal chuds.
