Soyjak Wiki:Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) or multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a feature that improves the security of wiki accounts. It is highly recommended, especially for staff. 2FA prevents someone who has stolen your password from being able to log into your account.
Enabling
[edit | edit source]Two-factor authentication can be enabled in Special:AccountSecurity.
Types
[edit | edit source]Authenticator app
[edit | edit source]An authenticator app utilizes a secret key to create a time-based one time password (TOTP). To enable it, click the "Add an authenticator app" button. You can either scan the QR code or manually copy and paste the secret key to add it to the app's vault. You will now be prompted for the TOTP every time you log into the 'ki.
Security key
[edit | edit source]Security keys are saved to your browser. They can be enabled with the "Add a security key" button. Not all browsers support this.
Recovery codes
[edit | edit source]Recovery codes allow you to log in if you have lost access to your authenticator app or security key. It is recommended that you write these down and store them in a secure location. Ideally, they should be printed on physical paper and kept in a safe, but you can also store them in an encrypted text file.
