Apu Apustaja is a popular poorly drawn subvariant of Pepe with Finnish origins.

History

"Apu" roughly translates to "help" or "assistance" from Finnish to English, and the character became known in anglophone communities as "Help Helper". Apu presumably originates from the Finn imageboard Ylilauta circa early 2016, and later would gain popularity on 4chan as an alternative Pepe. He is generally depicted as childish and unintelligent, yet kind, curious and sincere, becoming beloved by a lot of people. He is likely the most popular Pepe variant and inspired the creation of others like Peepo, Marv and Honkler. He was known in the /qa/ for his relationship with Ashbie.
