The Backrooms also known as the 'rooms are a fictional location that supposedly exists outside of reality and resembles an empty furniture store or something.

Origin

The original Backrooms photo was taken in 2002 and initially uploaded to the internet in 2003. Throughout the years, up until 2018, it was occasionally posted on the 'cuck, most notably on /tv/ in 2011. In the following years, it was very rarely seen until it started to gain more popularity after it was posted on /b/ in April of 2018. After being posted on /b/, it started to be posted more frequently throughout the rest of 2018 and the start of 2019, typically on /x/ though it was also posted on /pol/ as well.

On May 12 2019, a thread was created on /x/ with the backrooms photo and the text: post disquieting images that just feel "off". In the thread, the Backrooms would be born when someone replied to some namefag with what would be later known as the original Backrooms creepypasta. Be warned when viewing the archive as the thread contains a very dangerous and ancient form of 'o known as a stroke simulator.

Liminal Spaces

r/LiminalSpace is dust...

The original Backrooms photo is a classic example of what is known as a liminal space. The Backrooms birthed the concept of liminal space photos as many of the images in the /x/ thread that birthed the creepypasta were also liminal spaces. Initially, what would become the liminal space community was just part of the Backrooms community with many early liminal space compilations often being named Pictures of the Backrooms or something similar.

In late 2019, the people that did not care for the Backrooms creepypasta/lore split off from the Backrooms community and became known as the liminal space community. They created their own subreddit called r/LiminalSpace.

Wikis

In the weeks after the creation of the Backrooms creepypasta, the Backrooms started to gain popularity as videos about it were posted on JewTube. As it gained popularity, people started to expand the lore by adding more creatures (later known as entities) and introduced the concept of "levels". Two subreddits were created: r/backrooms and r/TheBackrooms. On these two subreddits redditors would continue to build on this new expanded lore and roleplay. Eventually, a Fandom wiki was created to document this rapidly expanding lore.

The Fandom wiki progressively became more inconsistent and low quality as it expanded with many new pages being barely readable. Eventually, it got so bad that a splinter wiki hosted using Wikidot (similar to the SCP wiki) was created. The Wikidot wiki would end up being just as bad as the Fandom wiki but in a completely different way. While the Fandom wiki was extremely low quality, it still at least contained some SOVL. On the other hand, the Wikidot wiki, while technically higher quality, was pure troonslop with zero SOVL.

Sometime in late 2020, an actual tranny known as 1000dumplings decided to write his own entity that he named Partygoers (a dogshit edit of Gumby making him yellow and adding a red smiley face and balloon. Truly spine tingling shit, I know). It was easily one of the brimmiest things to have come out of the Backrooms community.

Another wiki known as the Liminal Archives was eventually created which got rid of most of the old lore but still kept the concepts of levels and some entities.

Kane Pixels^🗝️

In Janurary 2022, an aryan gigachad vfxGOD known as Kane Pixels made a spine-tingling, bone-chilling Backrooms video named The Backrooms (Found Footage). He would then proceed to make a gemmy aryanalog horror series based around a company named Async, led by the mysterious Ivan Beck, that created a portal into the Backrooms (known in universe as the Complex) using the Low-Proximity Magnetic Distortion System.

Unlike the Backrooms Wiki, Kane Pixels' rendition lacked everything that wasn't included in the original /x/ post, giving the the idea a well needed fresh start and cleaned off the mountain of coal that The Backrooms had been buried in by the Wiki troondom. Despite the major differences, people with surface level knowledge such as shitskin content farmers and trooncore aesthetictards are frequently too inept to differentiate the two and will regularly combine the ideas from both universes. If they weren't both called the same thing then more people would realize that confusing the two is as distasteful as confusing Family Guy with Big Mouth.

Relation to the Sharty

On the Sharty there has been at least two memes based on the Backrooms: the Soyrooms, an IAS version of the Backrooms, and more recently, the Blackedrooms, a BBC/Spadeson themed version of the Backrooms.

The 100 GET on /grox/ was a Blackedrooms video.

The Sharty has a banner based on the 'rooms.

Location

On May 30 2024, the original Backrooms photo location was 'oxed found by some SNCA 'cord server.

The original photo was revealed to have been taken at 807 Oregon St, Oshkosh, WI 54902 on June 12, 2002
