The term namefag refers to imageboard users who use names or distinguishing images or behavior to identify themselves since they have nothing going on in their real lives.

Namefaggotry is enabled by most imageboards, but it is widely disliked by the users because of how rife it is among trannies and attention whores, and because it's not permitted by le heccin’ oldchad culture.

Soysphere

On SoyBooru, namefags have a lot of influence and usually get into drama wars. The term namefag was eventually filtered to "attentionwhore" there. Fag or Faggot formerly got wordfiltered to flamboyant person if you were logged out, turning Namefag into Nameflamboyant person as a result.

On the Sharty, the name field is only enabled on certain boards.

On some splinters, namefagging and its cousin tripfagging can also be achieved, either through traditional methods, by putting stuff in the subject field, or using the fucking email field nobody cares about.

Types

Tripfag

Tripfags are a subset of namefags who use unique password-hashed tripcodes so as to prevent impersonation by everyone without the password, unless they're dumb fucks and have only a single ! in their tripcode, in which case anyone with a tripcode cracking engine can impersonate them given enough time and processing power. This is because when typing a double hash before your tripcode (eg. "##retarded_tripfaggot"), the tripcode is hashed using sha256 with a unique server-sided code. This makes vanity tripfagging an already used alias impossible.

Vanity tripfag

Despite being devised as a secure cryptographic signature, some keyed retards use custom tripcode generators such as Meriken's Tripcode Engine to fish for a custom trip that spells their name or whatever sequence of characters they're willing to spend enough computational power on. Anything over 6 characters will take 30+ hours of non-stop computing on Meriken's btw. Cool I guess?

Avatarfag

Avatarfags are posters who use specific images to break anonymity similarly to namefags, whether it be a character from a movie, television, book etc. or just a random image. Despite there being a no avatarfagging rule on both 4cuck and the Party, a few of them still exist. They are often given nicknames which get them confused for namefags, though many namefags indeed are avatarfags as well. While most avatarfags are unfunny trannies, in rare cases some of them are actually funny and give birth to new memes and creativity, but the majority of them are just smug annoying spergs who want to be special by wasting bandwidth, scrollwheel durability, and threads' usable image limit.

Personalityfag

Personalityfags are posters who act in an eccentric manner without name or tripfagging, be it deliberately or not. They often overlap with avatarfags. Notable personalityfags include Lee Goldson and his descendants.
