Soydueling

Soydueling, also sometimes referred to as "'jakking off" [meds NOW] is the culmination of the Soyical Arts and the centre of soy culture originating from /tv/ in mid 2019[1][2], and later popularized on /qa/.[3]
The art of the duel was invented by Chad, a schizophrenic user who ran a discord primarily based on raiding /tv/.[4] He outlined the rules of the duel in a series of anonymous posts on /tv/.[5][6][7][8]
Summary[edit | edit source]
Essentially, a soyduel is a popular competitive event in which two or more posters continuously quote each other with various soyjaks. The earliest soyduels started by interjecting unrelated threads.[9] In competitive soyduel, the selection of fitting soyjaks for each specific quote becomes a vital game element, as too does the selection of fitting soyjaks to counter the soyjaks of the opponent. Running out of soyjaks amounts to an instant loss. For this reason, a successful soyduelist needs to invest significant time into honing his craft and building his "deck". Duels may also involve mass quoting, but Janny doesn't like this.
There are many ways for a duel to begin. They may kick off in designated duelling threads in which both opponents agree to duel beforehand, such as in the occasional "Soyduel Sunday" threads that have been known to crop up throughout 2020-2021.[10] Simple misunderstandings have been known to cause short-lived duels,[11] and duels may also start when two soyposters run into each other while attempting to derail the same thread. Most commonly, however, duels escalate from a single 'jaking in which both sides refuse to back down: duellist A makes an unironic post, duellist B soyquotes him, duellist A soyquotes that post... before they know it, both sides may find themselves bogged down in a lengthy duel neither had anticipated.
A changing battlefield characterises long-lived duels. The exceeding of the image limit marks a turning point in any soyduel with the beginning of the sudden-death ASCIIjak stage, in which conventional duellist tactics are turned on their head by the introduction of text-based jaks. Another consideration is hitting the character limit. Soyentists theorise that this is inevitable in any duel due to the accumulation of >'s, but it is only a real problem in mass reply duels and duels with a bulky starting post, in which case they recommend splitting up the post and the soyjak across multiple posts and especially not truncating the post, as such behavior constitutes an immediate fail.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]
Main article: Soydueling Manifesto
Some duels have been known to end with one party conceding defeat,[12] though this is exceptionally rare. The ease of finding soyjaks nowadays means that running out of 'jaks is no longer a concern--websites such as soyjak boorus and KnowYourMeme, while wholly looked down upon compared to an organic collection, even allow for duellists to find more ammo mid-duel.
With that being said, there still are some ways to judge who is "winning" and who is "losing" as a duel progresses:
- Things that indicate winning:
- High quality soyjaks for the situation
- Effective quoting and timely replies
- Getting the last image in before the ASCIIjak stage
- Things that indicate losing:
- Soyjaks that do not represent the situation
- Soyjaks with filenames from KnowYourMeme (usually a 3 character alphanumeric sequence) or the booru
- Failed quotations
- Replying to the post number/not replying to the post number (depending on the thread)
- Posting duplicate images
- Showing confusion at artificial (You)s
- Posting Swedish Fails
- Posting Chudjaks, Troonjaks, Amerimutt, Euromutt etc. when the duel is unrelated
- Posting Variant:Unknowns
- Posting NAS
- Posting speech bubbles
- Posting thumbnails
- Trying to convince you that you lost by replying "FAIL"
- Rolling the name of the soyjak you are using to quote the opponent, excluding Chud.
Other forms[edit | edit source]
Catalog dueling[edit | edit source]

Catalog duels are a kind of soyduel where the participants soyquote each other via entirely new threads instead of replies, which fills up the 'log with soyquote threads, thus the name "catalog duel".
Catalog dueling has existed since the /qa/ and is probably nearly as old as regular soyduels. Catalog duels allow the participants to bring greater attention to themselves, and when the catalog duel takes place during a gemming up campaign, cause much more disruption and thread sliding. A single heated catalog duel can end in a cattywipe as long as the jannies aren't watching.
Gigasoydueling[edit | edit source]

Gigasoydueling is an act where 2 people soyduel each other, but instead of dueling about a comment one of them said, they duel on a comment from a 3rd party, and one of the duelers posts Gigachad images while the other posts Soyjaks.
The name "gigasoydueling" was coined in a /soy/ thread on December 9th, 2025, though the technique had certainly been in practice for much longer.[13] A soyteen also got GET "14350000" in the same thread. [even doe quads arent gets] [even doe even doe if number pleasing to look at, number le get]
Ratio dueling[edit | edit source]
A Ratio Duel is an archaic type of neo-soyduel, along with (Cob)Dance off's and troon/chudduels, in which one or more participants attempt to get more (You)s on their “ratio” post then the other. It is usually started by one person posting a ratio, and another posting a counter ratio to that.
Unlike soyduels, ratio duels can have any number of participants adding to either side of the ratio.
The most competitive ratioduels are usually between Cobson and Feraljak supporters.
The script can be found at Customization#Ratio Script, it would be put in the "custom code" box inside the [Options] button, but this doesn't work anymore.
Similar to Mona, Ratio duels turned out to be a Kuz-era fad, because they were popular during Kuz's run as admin. They are now used by soycheologists to date threads.
Reception[edit | edit source]
The game has been praised for its depth and the theorycrafting required from the duelists. [14]
Decline[edit | edit source]
Soydueling has been banned by every website on the internet except for the sharty. Chuds who are suspected of soydueling WILL be put on a watchlist by the UN. Attempts made to revive soydueling have mostly failed. People who attempt to start soyduels on the sharty are usually responded to with terse, low effort insults indicative of low paid troll farms and leftist shills. This has led many people to suspect that trannies have gained full control of the sharty.[15]
^ don't listen to the demoraltroon, what actually happens is due to the comically huge reply, image, and character limits combined with SoyBooru and being stuck on the sharty for years with gb of 'jaks to quote with, you get dragged into hours of replies until someone either gives up or you utilize advanced spoofing techniques to cause a fail
Revival[edit | edit source]

On the 20th of June, an enormous soyduel took place[16], from a thread initially about an iceberg meme. The thread was pinned by boot during the duel[17] and reached over 800 reppeys. It initiated after a frogfag's clitty started leaking all over the place and he got quoted[18]. Some latefags attemped to chime in after it finished, but Soystorians agree Post №11757018[16] won as all the original duelers had quit or left. Due to the thread being pinned it's very likely there was many people soy dueling each other all at once. This duel was unique not only because it was pinned, but for the variety of oldfag jaks, lack of boorufagging, and the speed and intensity at which it was fought.
Legitimacy[edit | edit source]

Soydueling IS a real sport in spite of numerous claims from purists, and made its first Olympic appearance in 2024 for the Paris Olympic Summer Games.
