Megalodon (Also known as Web Gyotaku) is perhaps the only good thing to come out of Japan. It is primarily used by soyteens to archive sharty threads and soyjak-related media. It is better than ArchiveToday because of the fact that it archives threads in less in a minute, as well as its ability to archive both audio and video. (On the sharty, you will need to archive them manually due to how vichan works)
It has up to 60 daily archives which are related to IP; (So if you have a VPN or Tor circuit, you can just change your IP and keep archiving.) [1]
Operating requirements[edit | edit source]
- Google translate
- Enabled javascript & Referrer headers (which any modern browser should have) <- though you can browse archives without JS
- An elementary understanding of how archiving works
Additional info[edit | edit source]

Deletion is possible, though it's not nearly as cucked as Internet archive. You will need to directly contact the jannies with a good reason to get an archive deleted[2], and only then the URL will be blacklisted and not the domain. And just like Archive.today, you can get disclosure on a deleted archive by contacting the jannies.
- Only Japanese Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji & Latin / accented latin Unicode characters are officially supported by Megalodon, archiving a page that's written in a third world language may result in shitty formatting.
- Websites that redirect multiple times for image rendering may result in an incomplete archive
- Pages with HTML that's difficult to obtain will result in a broken archive
- Archives that contain content that can't be distributed in japan (which should be nothing) will be deleted.
- Megalodon's server can be searched for archives, by prefixing any URL with "gyo.tc"; the process checks the query against other services as well, including Google's cached pages and Mementos.
- Like archive.today you can actually get shortened URLs of 'chives
- Wayback rearchiving is technically possible, in that the wayback popup thing won't be there, but it won't save the original URL unlike the other services with similar rearchive capabilities.
- Archive.today can rearchive Megalodon snapshots however ever since December 2024 the way Megalodon snapshots seem to be changed so when you rearchive it you can't scroll
