Geeks are what we used to call soyboys before the word soyboy was invented. They are basically mainstream people who think they're niche by liking stereotypically nerdy things while also following the latest trends. They may also be referred to as hipsters or millennials.

A typical geek is a man born in the 1980s, who works as a software engineer in San Francisco, California. He wears a greyish green turtleneck sweater, designer glasses, and cargo pants. He keeps up with the latest developments in science, technology, and space exploration, and typically equips himself with the latest trendy new gadget. His favorite music is a 2010s alt rock band that he collects their records in vinyl form. He enjoys Star Wars, Rick & Morty and Marvel comic books, he drinks the latte from Starbucks for breakfast and is an avid user of Reddit. He has generally moderate left-wing liberal views and votes for the Democrats.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Geek/Geck in old English refers to a foolish or silly person, and is derived from the German term geck which is still in use with the same meaning in modern German. In English, the term evolved to mean someone who acts foolish in social situations and around women, or generally doesn't mesh with society, which evolved into the term we are familiar with today.

Nerd[edit | edit source]

The Nerd-Geek conflict in a nutshell.

Geeks are not to be confused with nerds, who, in turn, are the proto-chuds. That's inaccurate. Geeks and nerds are functionally synonymous, all attempts to differentiate the two terms are post-hoc justifications from people who couldn't cope with being called a nerd or a geek by chads but also wanted to identify with the concept. Since nerd/geeks were the original pioneers of the internet, most non-normie internet demographics are derived from them, including soyboys and chuds. Much like geeks, nerds are obsessed with Dungeons & Dragons, mathematics, comic books, and other generally obscure shit.

One commonly accepted distinction between nerds and geeks is that a "nerd" is defined as a smart and academically-focused individual, interested in things like math and science or history, while a "geek" is defined as someone who obsesses over childish hobbies. In reality however, most nerds also fit this definition of geeks and vice versa. Nonetheless these definitions are used to support the nerd superiority cope.

Another posited distinction between nerds and geeks is that, while geeks tend to be more social creatures who go to geek conventions and potentially have sex, the nerd is typically a complete loser, hopelessly unpopular with girls and doesn't even have the courage to speak to one, and gets bullied a lot by his highschool jock (the proto-chad). The stereotypical nerd might also have various allergies and phobias and maybe seen in braces. This perspective feeds into the nerd victimhood cope, as well as the geek superiority cope.

Self-identified nerds typically dislike that their favorite things are being co-opted by hipster geeks, because they used to get bullied for liking it but now that they're mainstream, it feels unfair to them.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The first documented appearance of the word nerd is as the name of a creature in Dr. Seuss's book If I Ran the Zoo (1950), which is an irrelevant factoid that the wikipedia page on nerds mentions. Nerd is a slang term that was in regular use as far back as 1951, and there's a few theories on where it came from. One theory is that it's a misspelling of "knurd," which is drunk spelled backwards, creating a term that refers to an uptight and sober individual who doesn't go to parties. Another theory suggests that it's a corruption of "nurt" which is itself a corruption of "nut," as in nutjob.

NEET/Hikikomori[edit | edit source]

NEET is an acronym for "Not in Education, Employment, or Training," and refers to individuals who have withdrawn from society as much as possible (albeit without abandoning the internet and living in the woods) and live off of their parents and/or government-funded wellfare programs. They are essentially the "geeks" of the modern internet-dominated era, as they are geeky antisocial virgin losers even in comparison to the now more socially acceptable geek. In the Americas and Europe, NEETs typically have a mental disorder like autism or gender dysphoria which qualifies them for government freebies, in fact most troons only troon out for such benefits. Japan has an epidemic of Anime-obsessed NEETs, which they blame for their low birth rate.
