The reason why I changed it: Salt threatened to demote Cobblestone if he didnt give him all roles. Now he's currently wiki admin and he has enacted dequotification policies

To be researched: Why Quote did it. Can (You) help us?

The Second Great Handover took place from August 5-9, 2026. Quote unexpectedly gave the Soysphere to Salt,[1] except Soybooru, which was given to Mustard, putting the main site and the 'ru under different ownership for the first time since Soot acquired the 'ru in September 2021. This was met with much confusion, as it was done with no announcement and contradicted Quote's previous claims that he planned to JSID whenever he was done. Complications from the handover resulted in the 2026 outage, resulting in a temporary migration wave to the Swinny and the 'ki galleries after June 8th being completely raped due to a disk failure. During this time, it was revealed that Cobblestone, Warrior-Z, and Broot had been covert administrators.

Changes

  • Salt has confirmed he will not re-add flags to /soy/, and namerolls were temporarily disabled but they were later restored.[2]
  • Salt also banned Averi and smuglet from /soy/.
  • Namefagging was banned on /soy/.
  • Rule 7 was removed.

Possible reasons

Larp theory

Some soyteens have theorized that the Second Great Handover was a larp and Salt is actually Quote. Proponents of the theory claim that Quote was wanting to purge some jannies and overhaul the rules, so he did it behind kayfabe.

Points in favor

  • It happened in the midst of the Seventh Soysurgency.
  • Mustard is still an admin of SoyBooru.
  • Quote previously stated that he planned to JSID when he was done.

Points against

  • Quote had been increasingly inactive from the site, going multiple days without contact with even any of the jannies.
  • Root, Mustard, Cobblestone, Warrior-Z, and Broot all had their admin privileges revoked.
  • Mustard and Fenriris were reportedly not informed.[5]
  • Salt seems to act completely different from Quote.
  • Turning /soy/ into a gore board is far beyond where any previous larps have gone.

Hostile takeover theory

Fenriris proposed the idea that Quote was in some way forced to give the site to Salt, though he himself stated that he has no evidence for this theory and said not to read too much into it.[5]

Hacked theory

Main article: 2026 Hack

Limeade attempted to do a Q&A on /soy/[6], although the Q&A was quickly removed due to the namefagging rule and ban evasion (geeeeeg), he stated that what actually happened was a combination of Quote getting doxxed and someone hacking into the sharty's servers via a wiki exploit, meaning that the "disk failure" narrative was just a coverup (or technically true since the hacker just raped the disk). Apparently all this caused Quote to have enough and he just handed ownership over to Salt who is apparently a friend of Quote. Take this with a huge grain of soy as this is Limeade we're talking about. A Shiwi user would later post evidence supporting this theory.
