Soy is a term used for soy beans and various products derived from it, notably Soylent. Soy is the reason why soyboys exist, even though there is no scientific evidence that soy increases estrogen. In fact, plant estrogens do not work on animals.^{[They just don't, ok?]}

Cultural impact of soy

Soy had existed for 1000s of year of human history as a relatively uncontroversial food, until the 2010s, where soy started being heavily shilled by vegans as a replacement for actual meat, something that would be a precursor to its downfall in popular culture. The negativity around soy started gaining traction sometime around 2017 after the popularization of the "nu-male facial expression" meme/theory, a concept proposed by /pol/ that references the general uncanny valley feel that comes from males doing overly excited, mouth gape expressions while sporting dead eyes. The nu-male stereotype encompasses many aspects, such as the negative effects of consumerism, insincerity, infantilization and excessively emotional reactions to meaningless things. All of these would serve a main theme, the problem with the decrease in masculinity of the modern western male. By representing the increase in female hormones as the general idea of femininity, soy started being associated with the concept over the belief that it increases estrogen or decreases testosterone. Thus the nu-male expression would now be referred to as a "Soy face". From there, soy and nu-male would merge to become the figure of the Soyboy and consequently Soyjaks. To stop the goyim from knowing search for accuracy and truth, scientists have made new research that proves that (((soy has absolutely nothing to do with estrogen))) and is totally safe to consume. In fact, the effects of soy and femininity got completely debunked by breadtubers, who claimed that it is not gender-affirming enough for trans queens and any claim otherwise is an alt-right psyop to make you consume it instead of taking your soyence approved HRT.

Broader internet

Although the research tried to clear the name for soy, the damage was already done. Even without increasing female hormones, the impact of the meme made soy still be negatively associated in culture and people's minds, forever a symbol of weakness and bad habits. While originally confined to political corners of the internet and 4chan, the bad image of soyboys and soy would spread to the wider internet, with it gaining a wikipedia page, being shown by major news publications and even PewDiePie, the largest youtuber of the time, covering it. Soyjaks themselves undoubtedly helped the concept fixate on people's minds, primarily with the Classic Soyjak appearing on various wojak posts and normie memes. "Soy" and "Soyjak" have for years also been used as slang words with negative connotations to describe anything or anyone that resemble the soyboy aesthetics.

In 'jakking

Soy is a common theme in 'jak images for pretty obvious reasons, specially in posts about the classic Soyjak. Soy derivatives were regarded as accessories to add to your 'jaks and complement the theming, specially in replacing regular objects with soy versions. They were iconic culinary for 'jaks like Breakfast for dinner and Sproke. Eventually, soy iguaries became less common in tosses as the Soyboy archetype started falling out of public consciousness.

By definition, it's the raw essence of soy, how it's encountered in nature and what's used to make all other soy products. One of the most well known soy products, soy milk is primarily shilled as a vegan alternative to actual milk (even though most animals like being uddered). Other than vegans, it's primarily consumed by those who are lactose intolerant (aka non aryans) or a specific subset of psychopaths who aren't neither and genuinely enjoy the taste of this. Soyjaks are portrayed as drinking both soy milk and Soylent (see below.)

Soylent is the popular soy product and its main culinary representative. It's named after the cult classic movie Soylent Green (even though soylent is evil in the film, which means the makers of the real life equivalent lack heckin media literacy or whatever). It is a packaged hyper processed drink that's the most enjoyed by soyboys and the most widely used in soyjak posts, made by a company called Soylent Nutritions who specializes in "meal replacements". Its impact in soy culture cannot be overstated, becoming a household name and even turned into a female mascot. The most popular flavor being cocoa (or cacao), followed by mint, vanilla and cream chocolate.
