Soyjak Wiki:Template question/3
There are currently at least a few more templates than there were since the last Template Question. You WILL go to Soyjak Wiki:Template and add and rate as many as you can find. Templates are sorted by the template list page they're on, and then sorted by their quality tier. There are 5 tiers per template type:
- Gems - Very few problems, if any. Strongest usecases.
- Iron - These templates have some problems, but they're acceptable due to a good usecase. Also contains templates that have niche usecases but are otherwise perfectly fine.
- Rust - These templates have few redeeming qualities, if any, or have a usecase entirely usurped by other templates (if they weren't redundant on arrival), but still have the potential to become useful if reworked.
- Coal - These templates are bad and reworking them to be useful wouldn't be worth the effort, either because of a better template existing for its (potential) usecase(s), or because the template is fundamentally useless.
- Deleted - Archived renditions of deleted templates explaining their problems that lead to their archival/deletion, assuming someone bothered to save their formatting code before deletion.
Veterans of the first two Template Questions might notice that the Coal tier was split. This is to better distinguish bad templates that are worth reworking/improving, and bad templates that the wiki is seriously better off without.
Common good and bad traits for templates[edit | edit source]
Good[edit | edit source]
- Small size
- A good usecase, which means
- Being versatile enough to use on multiple pages
- While also being specialized enough to have a clear purpose, with its usecase being specific enough to warrant a template, and
- Having a reason to exist via there being a problem that it serves as a viable solution to
- Being visually appealing, such as having
- Text that contrasts well with its background
- Easily readable fonts
- Clean images with transparent backgrounds where necessary
- Good customizability; having at least one field with customizable text (and customizable images, if applicable) is standard for Soyki templates
Bad[edit | edit source]
- Large vertical size (anything bigger than a standard
{{Soybox}}better have a good reason for it) - Poor usecase, such as by
- Having the template's reason for existing being for things that are immediately obvious upon taking a first glance at the article
- Just being a more subdued/extreme version of another template
- Being too common to warrant a template (such as anything that follows general wiki guidelines, or everything on a broad enough topic since navbox footers exist for that)
- Being too specific and thus better off as a set of
{{Soybox}}parameters on the few articles it'd go on - or formerly having a usecase that later became obsolete for any reason, and thus no longer needing to exist
- Looking ugly, commonly caused by
- Poor color combinations
- Poor text color/font choice (usually due to font effects or weird typefaces)
- Opaque image backgrounds where it'd obstruct non-gradient backgrounds (or just having an opaque background that poorly meshes with the template background)
- Flashy animated features (gifs, shaketext, etc) when there's no need for such
- Poor customizability, due to not supporting customization parameters or having abhorrent source code
Todo add headings for differing template categories[edit | edit source]
Gem[edit | edit source]
Good templates with few issues, if any, as well as strong usecases.
| Template | Appearance | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
{{Soybox}} |
+ Simple and extremely versatile, usecase covers pretty much anything that'd warrant a boxed header template made specifically for the article in question
+ A lot of important templates are built on it so removing it/fucking with it would be a bad idea | |
{{Ongoing}}
|
ATTENTION GRABBING TEXTThis page or section is about an ongoing event. Check again later for more coverage. |
+ Good usecase, grabs attention without overdoing it, and notifies readers that the article will recieve constant updates while the event is underway. |
{{Gem}}
|
+ Marks good, well-written articles
+ Very compact | |
{{Coal}}
|
+ Marks poorly written articles
+ Very compact | |
{{Stub}}
|
+ Marks stubs neatly | |
{{Notastub}}
|
+ Marks pages that are stubs but have no more info to add neatly | |
{{Split}}
|
+ Marks pages that need to be split neatly
± Pages needing to be split rarely happens, but it's good this exists to promote discussion instead of splitting willy-nilly. | |
{{Ruby}}
|
+ Clearly conveys that the article is close to becoming a gem, incentivizing editors to improve the article.
+ Very compact ± Nusoi's tend to mark their own articles with this all the time. | |
{{OMGSISA}}
|
💞 OH MY FAUCI SHE IS SO ATTRACTIVE!!! 💞This page features a very pretty woman |
+ Good usecase for articles about pretty women. Also flexible enough via a parameter letting it be applied to handsome men instead
+ Looks nice |
{{MultipleIssues}}
|
|
+ Good usecase for indicating that an article has multiple issues, saving space that'd be taken up by individual issues. Clear call to action.
- Slightly distracting |
{{Award}}
|
Another template question award
|
+ Lets people grant honorable or dishonorable mentions to various things
+ Small |
{{Research}}
|
+ Simple, clear call to action | |
{{Winraid}}
|
+ Simple, clearly states why the raid was a victory without having to read the entire article | |
{{Neutralraid}}
|
Template question/3 was a Sharty neutralraid.Reason(s): Marge. |
+ Simple, clearly states why the raid was a stalemate without having to read the entire article |
{{Failraid}}
|
Template question/3 was a tragic Sharty failraid.Reason(s): Nothing ever happens. |
+ Simple, clearly states why the raid was a failure without having to read the entire article |
Iron[edit | edit source]
Templates with both good and bad qualities.
| Template | Appearance | Reasoning | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
{{Topaz}}
|
+ Great for awarding high-quality schizoposts.
± Commonly added together with - Commonly misinterpreted as a rating between | ||||
{{WIP}}
|
+ Clearly marks a page as work-in-progress
- Often rots on pages despite it's true purpose being to prevent edit conflicts while a page is actively being worked on. | ||||
{{Walloftext}}
|
(You) VVILL add images and make the text less dense. |
+ Clear call to action to fix formatting and add images.
± Small variant is nice but often goes unnoticed - Most editors that know to place this template should also be capable of fixing these issues rather quickly, rendering the need for the template redundant aside from those being lazy SLFs. | |||
{{Heavy}}
|
This article is very heavy, heavier than 'cado evenIt may lag your device and drain your phone/laptop's battery. Consider putting the article on a diet. |
+ Clear usecase in denoting laggy articles, and advises mobile/laptop users to save reading the page for when they get home due to battery drain issues
- Also niche as most pages aren't supposed to be laggy outside of very long lists and joke articles | |||
{{Gigastub}}
|
This page is stubbier than a jartycuck's clitty!You VVILL contribute by adding important info to this page, or else it may be a candidate for deletion. |
+ Useful for marking extremely short articles at risk of being marked for deletion for lacking important content (such as what the article is even for in the first place) that are clearly not going to be expanded on further.
- Slightly unclear usecase - Does take up more space than anything that'd warrant the template, but those wouldn't have anything to push down past the bottom of the screen with a boxed template anyways. | |||
{{GoodDeadMeme}}
|
|
± Fine, but text needs better contrast. Why exactly is the Gegbull link Impact, anyways? It's hard to read at that size. | |||
{{GoodDeadVariant}}
|
|
± See above; it's not a bad template but there's not enough contrast between the background and the text, especially with the links. | |||
{{Fill}}
|
+ Good call to action and request for more information to be added
+ The template's text conveys such a good idea that we should do that with this page. - Commonly rots on pages where editors have no clue what to add.[Could be fixed with a topic parameter like | ||||
{{Schizo}}
|
+ Clearly marks a page as schizobabble
± Could probably be redone as a lesser page ranking like - Ugly, design needs to be rethought, probably as a boxless template. | ||||
{{Gooner}}
|
This person is a GOONER!Xe has severe porn addiction induced by years of being a terminally online clittycel |
+ Widely applicable to pages on degenerates
- Boring design, images are large for a template and the text is still borderline illegible ± Requires editors to read documentation and use html tags to properly apply the pornhub styled text marking the word "Gooner" | |||
{{Customtung}}
|
![]() No Text |
+ Versatile
- Can be used to recreate deleted Tungs like | |||
{{Goth}}
|
THIS PAGE MAKES MY CUTS BLEEDGothic culture permeates this area... NO POSERS. |
+ Looks sharp - Niche (only used on 9 mainspace articles as of addition to this list) |
Rust[edit | edit source]
Templates that are poor, but fixable in some way, such as visual redesigning, adjusting the usecase, or merging into another template.
| Template | Appearance | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
{{ACKtung}}
|
Trans rights are human r-ACK! |
± Very attention grabbing
- Commonly spammed |
{{Frogtung}}
|
Oh NONONONONO nusoicacas whats this? |
± Very attention grabbing
- Commonly spammed |
{{Merge}}
|
+ Clearly denotes a page should be split
± Image could do with being replaced with something smaller and more relevant - Often rots on pages which are either too poorly written or difficult to merge | |
{{Gemerald}}
|
+ Compact and clean
- Just | |
{{Dust}}
|
+ Small
- Text isn't that legible and it's pretty redundant with the Coal template existing for pages with the potential to become not bad, the SNCA namespace existing for NAS articles, and the Delete template exising for pages that clearly aren't going to be brought up to standards. There was the concept of automatically applying it to abandoned pages but there's plenty of articles without quality templates that are still reasonably complete and not dust. | |
{{UnconfirmedDox}}
|
+ Clear call to action
- Very ephemeral, usually only on a page for a small while before the dox is confirmed. - Usually rots on pages when a dox attempt is given up on. | |
{{OMGSISU}}
|
💔 LOCO SHE CAN'T BE THAT ATTRACTIVE!!! 💔This page features a not-so-very pretty woman |
± Just merge this into {{OMGSISA}} just like with how NoNuts got merged into {{Nuts}} as a template setting.
|
{{NWO}}
|
- Needlessly huge, ugly border | |
{{Freespeech}}
|
Thou shall not censor this article as it is FREE SPEECH.Feel free to contribute, however. |
+ Theoretically good on pages which are commonly subject to biased editing.
- Could be placed on any article where the editor thinks their free speech is being censored. - Arguably superseded by detractor and supporter perspectives which are inherently free speech, thus no need for a template. |
{{Aryan}}
|
Template question/3 is ARYANbtw, if that matters |
+ Small enough
+ Can be converted to a user template instead - Commonly spammed on "thing-I-like" pages, not much of a purpose otherwise - Often appears on pages which has nothing to do with aryans, not even sarcastically |
{{Rejected}}
|
Your edit to Soyjak Wiki:Template Question/3 was rejected[edit source]Your edit on Soyjak Wiki:Template Question/3 was rejected by GauntletThrown due to ignoring le heckin sacred Soyjak Wiki:Manual of Style. |
+ Faster to type out than "Your edit to whatever was rejected for reason ~~~~"
- Usecase is only relevant for anporvoors and above - What the fauci is that source code? Oh my science someone please just make it a soybox or get cobblesisa to add edit rejection reason notifications to the edit pending approval system - Creates a new section heading as part of its code without a parameter to disable it, which is fine on talk pages but not in articles like this one |
{{India}}
|
SAAR! This train collision was caused by PakistanisDon't redeem any card you see. Shill H1B visa while dodging trains to make Bharat a superpooper.
|
+ Not ugly - Shitty usecase doe due to being a country/connections template. Probably should be reworked to not just use the same stale connections format every other header template ever made has used |
{{China}}
|
- Somewhat ugly
- Country template slop |
Coal[edit | edit source]
Templates that need removal due to being fundamentally bad/useless to the point where it'll be best to delete them and maybe start over if their usecase is still relevant. This also includes templates with usecases so broad or vague that their inclusion on pages is redundant.
| Template | Appearance | Reasoning | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
{{Dishonorable}}
|
- Visually noisy
- Connections slop - Also country template slop. Japan isn't really relevant to the soysphere on enough different topics to need a template. | ||||
{{ACK!}}
|
This nigga ACK'ed! GEEEEEEEEEEEEG!! |
- Quoting the deletion notice it had: >ugly useless nigger template for something that's already implied by using was/were pronouns and having a death date in an infobox | |||
{{Example}}
|
This is an example. The pagename your viewing is Template question/3
This is subtext. links can be put here like Froot |
- Quoting the deletion notice currently on it: >No reason for this to exist now that {{Soybox}} is in wide use.
| |||
{{Halal}}
|
- Religion template slop
- Ugly - Frequently spammed | ||||
{{Haram}}
|
- Religion template slop
- Frequently spammed ± Can just be merged into | ||||
{{Kosher}}
|
- Religion template slop
- Frequently spammed together with {{Jew}} - Conflicting use-case with {{Jew}} | ||||
{{NotKosher}}
|
|
- Religion template slop
- Almost every article could have this template and still make sense - Frequently spammed together with {{Chud}} and {{SmallChud}} ± Can just be merged into | |||
{{Hitlergentina}}
|
Lose an entire heckin world war? This nigga went to Argentina |
- Too narrow of a use-case, only on 4 mainspace pages.
- Arguably country connections slop | |||
{{Telegram}}
|
|
- Sharty boogeyman slop
- Too narrow of a use-case, only on 7 mainspace pages. | |||
{{Chud}}
|
- (virtually) Every article was written by hateful chuds dipshit, it came free with your fucking 4chan offshoot - Besides its usecase being too broad, it also doesn't tell anyone anything not already immediately obvious from a first glance. | ||||
{{Controversial}}
|
Check the history section for the full story. |
- Seems to just exist as an edit warring scar on pages - Its only other purpose (telling people to check the page history) overlaps with |
Deleted[edit | edit source]
Templates deleted because of this project.
| Template | Appearance | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
{{Warning}}
|
![]() Not screenshotted: Glowing and shaketext |
- Quoting the deletion notice it had: >Useless shouty template only used on one mainspace page - Also didn't have default text for its first/second fields. |
