How do i create a template on my page

i want to create a template just for my useroage but i didnt find no tutorial online so please help

if you're making it just for your userpage then i think it'd be better to put the css directly in your page rather than use a template. but either way to make a template you go to page Template:YourTemplateNameHere, create the page with the css for your template then when you want to use it type {{ and look up your template's name and use it. if you dont know how to write the css just copy from another template and modify the colors (hexcodes) or text to suit your needs Cobblestone (talk) 07:56, 30 November 2024 (EST)

It's actually pretty simple. But if you don't understand mediawiki that much, You might have some troubles.

To show you, imma go with Template:NeedsMoreContext,

border: Makes the outlines of the template. Make it usually "2px solid #000", You can add a valid color in the #, Just, make the letters big.

padding: I really don't know about this. It adds a.. Padding? I guess. Add a valid px and you're done, After you type in the px, Make sure to add ;". 

cellpadding= - cellspacing= : Probably something the padding. I usually use style margin, by the way, You don't add px to this. Just add a number.

align= : Aligns the padding and the font. Make it usually center. Add " both sides of the center. So it would be valid.

|BGCOLOR=#ffff|: Background color. Again, But it's probably something with the font because there's 2 backgrounds. Or it just adds shadows.

padding is the space between the borders and the stuff inside the div box or table cell in question. padding is what you apply to the box/cell and "margin" is applied to the thing inside but they both do the same thing essentially. cellpadding is like padding (but applied to all items in the table as far as i know) and cellspacing is the space between the cells (boxes) of a table themselves. also {| is syntax that starts a mediawiki table https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Tables/en but html style tables are less Incomprehensible so i suggest those instead. https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp but actually if you just want to make a normal template you dont need a table. you can just use a div box Cobblestone (talk) 11:38, 27 December 2024 (EST)

Revamped

Main pages has been revamped (yoinked from ED with modifications). Now the dailyjak and featured gems are automatically retrieved based on a subpage with the day's date on it. if it cant find it it'll look for up to 2 days behind. now you can schedule features and jaks ahead of time. just make sure to add them to the archive linked under the relevant sections once you're done Cobblestone (talk) 10:05, 11 December 2024 (EST)

"Captcha not necessary" bug in mcchallenge

There's a bug in the mccaptcha where the captcha can say "captcha not necessary". However when you get it and leave the captcha text field blank you will get an incorrect captcha message. plsfix (or just remove mccaptcha and replace it with the captcha on sharty o algo)

The Dailyjak image doesn't properly resize when inserted into the Main Page

I'll say this here as well (mediawiki extension i made)

I read up on mediawiki and made an extension to play SWFs that have been uploaded to the 'ki.
It is immune to cross site scripting, unlike the other Flash extensions which got deleted from mediawiki for user input directly to the browser.
Just download and extract the zip and put this in your local settings: require_once "$IP/extensions/SWFPopup/SWFPopup.php";
Add this to any wiki page: <swf>File:Flash.swf height=266 width=474</swf> and you click the link and it opens in a popup.
Of course, you should do the same network traffic and link opening blocking that the sharty does. You can just add the sharty's ruffle configuration to the Common.js file popup html that gets generated inside the JS file when a flash link is clicked.

Something to look out for when doing daily jaks

For today’s Daily Jak, Dailyjak:August_25,_2025, I noticed that it wasn’t loading correctly on the other sites because the link was trying to pass in MediaWiki markup (|400px) directly into the browser URL, which caused the error. That kind of markup only works inside wiki pages and shouldn’t be included in external links. It looks like Quote’s code is pulling that markup and inserting it into the link for some reason when sending it to the other sites. So in the future, when adding a Jak, it should not have any MediaWiki parameters in it; otherwise the link will break outside of the wiki.

You can see an example of what I mean in the image:

Nu infoboxes

I've rewritten most infoboxes except for Infobox Concept, which is currently a purposefully ambiguous template for when an infobox for the subject in question doesn't exist. Here's what editors will need to know:

1. Now you can make brand-new infoboxes in seconds using Special:InfoboxBuilder which gives you a visual editor. If you use the source editor, you have even more options and you can do stuff like have prebuilt tabbers Template:Infobox soyjak and even more advanced stuff like in Template:Infobox conflict, read these for more info if you know how to use the source editor:

2. Tabbers don't exist anymore, instead, pass entire galleries into infobox images like this to get tabs, or you can use panel tags to have tabbers by default like in the soyjak infobox:

3. You can style all parts of these new infoboxes with css unlike the old ones. Check out Mediawiki:Common.css for an example.

4. These infoboxes are friendlier for mobile users which is the main reason why I did all this.

Add shortcut redirects for wiki policy pages

You know how wikipedia has a bunch of WP:WHATEVER redirect pages made to be shorthand ways to link to policy pages? I think those would be helpful for talk pages and whatnot. Some proposed examples:

• SW:MOS (Soyjak Wiki:Manual of Style)
• SW:RULES (Soyjak Wiki:Rules)
• SW:LINKSPAM (Soyjak Wiki:Linker)
• SW:FONTSPAM (Soyjak Wiki:Text styling overdose)

Unused template cleanup

I swept through the list of unused templates to find unused templates and flag unnecessary ones for deletions (obsolete templates, templates with nonexistent usecases, documentation pages for deleted/archived templates, broken templates, etc). What I noticed is that a significant amount of pre-2025 ones were protected by User:Gem Control who at some point before his permaban protected almost every single template so that only jannies can edit them, which is fine for anything actually used but a problem for the future when a lot of the templates would outlive their usefulness. A lot of said protected abandoned templates are just inefficient roundabout ways of doing something that could already be done without the template, like single formatting tags (the ones bracketed with quote arrows, not template or link brackets).

I think it'd be worthwhile to lower the protection levels for all the leftover templates protected by Gem Control so the potentially useful templates can be maintained and the useless ones flagged for deletion. The original protection reason (fear of 'cordies changing the templates to 'p) is irrelevant because this site has had Media Pending Approval for a while and thus only the most used templates need to be protected beyond autoconfirmed users anymore.
