About the featured articles

I do not agree with how the featured gems are now formatted, because constantly scheduling articles to be featured every day is a hassle, and then on top of that you have to protect the pages in case some clittycel posts 'p on it and it gets on the front page. There are too many unnecessary hurdles and the classic way of simply having 1 template was superior and should be implemented again. Gem Control (talk)

Delete unused images

Many images currently lie in the Marked for deletion category and are unused. Just delete them and get it over with. I also added another unused and extremely ugly file (but is currently being reviewed by mods) called Timothy.png to the category. Delete that as well.

Yeah listen Alberto initially, when BMT spam first appeared, the community treated it lightly and considered it part of the site's culture, not understanding the spammers' true intentions. However, when Kuz became involved, he was informed that this activity was actually illegal, as evidenced by this revision made on August 18, 2022.

I contacted Soot around May/June 2022 regarding banning BMT and warned about potential legal consequences, but Soot didn't seem particularly concerned and this post was actually an endorsement contrary to what the page currently claims. I did not partake in that spam, as I'm personally against animal cruelty and gore content in general. My edit was made only to revert vandalism that had occurred. i acked it because:

the featured tags would pile up at the bottom of articles featured multiple times due to the relatively small size of articles on the wiki, which made it annoying cause you couldnt just feature whatever you want however many times you want.
nobody but me was really interested in scheduling featured articles and having to go tag the article too just increased the work to be done.

You can't do it because I applied cascading protection on the main page. This means every single template on there is automatically admin protected, including templates within templates within templates. If I unlock main page/major events then 'p on the front page would only be a single approve away and that's too much of a security risk. The talkpage of the major events page is unlocked though. And on said wiki there was an extension called MSupload which let you upload images right from the editing interface, which proved to be VERY efficient in uploading large amounts of images at once. The pages you're trying to edit are templates. Templates are protected because if they're fucked up or vandalized, the fuckup will be displayed across multiple pages.

I can't grant autoconfirm, but you can get it by just contributing to the wiki like you said. Just edit any page that interests you, remove typos, add links to other articles (but only once per article to avoid link overload), write articles, update the Happenings/2025 (with archives). many templates on the wiki are tables. for tables you can just normal html code like td for cells or tr for rows and such, but you're probably getting smokescreened by the fact that you can also write tables using wikicode. read this mw:Help:Tables.

other than that templates use parameters, which are the things you can change and rename in the templates, and they're defined by 3 curly brackets {{{1}}} <-- now when you use the template in a page, when you add a parameter named "1" or the first parameter will replace this in the template code. {{Template:templatename|1=thing to replace}} or {{Template:templatename|thing to replace}}.

finally, there are parser functions which are the truly complicated parts of the wiki. the easiest kinds of parser functions are magic words mw:Help:Magic_words#Parser_functions which are like templates but you write them and they get replaced with a specific piece of info like today's date or the page's name. these are used to get the date for the main page dailyjak and the names for the PAGENAME is coal/gem etc templates if you noticed. the hardest parser functions to understand are modules mw:Extension:Scribunto because those are actual lua scripts. if you see #invoke then that's a module being run (you pretty much never have to mess with those anyways though) Cobblestone (talk) 16:27, 11 June 2025 (EST)

Something about categories

I like categories, but it is tedious to create a category and have to add it to every page manually if it's not from a template.
