Catalog wiping
Catalog wiping, also known as cattywiping, occurs when a large number of new threads are rapidly created on a board to completely replace all the old ones, effectively deleting the whole board and replacing it with spam. The name is derived from the catalog mode, which allows users to view all the threads in a grid.
Cattywipes used to be more common on the Sharty, particularly on /soy/, before hourly thread limits were added. In addition to the fact that one IP can only create a thread roughly every minute or so, this makes catty wiping, even while using a botnet, very difficult. Catalog wiping is detrimental to websites like the Sharty, but is even more dangerous to dead imageboard websites such as the 'fe. Boards with no archives may have all their content permanently deleted. Some imageboards may utilize similar cooldown restrictions or a rollback system to undo catty wiping, such as 4cuck, but this is not always the case.

An early example of a catalog wipe occurred in 2013, when /s4s/ wiped the catalog of /po/. Various participants such as the "Gippo Dudee" attempted a board takeover and blimps.
On kwah[edit | edit source]
Cattywiping on /qa/ was common, and even now, in some cases[it just is, ok?snopes?it just is, ok?how???whatbut... why?], because jannies don't care about quality anymore. However, a notable occurrence was when the pedophile shark VTuber Gawr Gura was used to cattywipe[it just is, ok?snopes?it just is, ok?how???whatbut... why?].
On the Sharty[edit | edit source]
On the Sharty, some notable examples of catty wiping are:
- the Kara Boga spammers from 2020-2022
- the giga 'catty wipe
- the pepe 'catty wipes
- the wojak catty wipe
There was also a recent example in 2024, with Spadeson spam wiping the 'log because a Soygem Pass user plugged the pass cookie into a bot[it just is, ok?snopes?it just is, ok?how???whatbut... why?]. Quote needs to figure out how 4cuck avoids this.
In September 2025, the biggest Lennonjak cattywipe wave was caused by a botnet attacking /soy/[it just is, ok?snopes?it just is, ok?how???whatbut... why?]. This caused the CAPTCHA to be enabled for a day.
Types of cattywipes[edit | edit source]
- Neutralplier spam and similar blogposts until they were banned by Froot
- Muttjaks
- Baby bot spam (This was especially common during late Doll era)
- In the months preceding the soypocalypse, there were actual 'p wipes done on the site[1]
- Numberjacks on /nate/ (where it belongs)
