1chan was an derelict English-language imageboard website centered around trains, created on November 10, 2003 by thatdog, a friend of moot.[1]
Early history and content[edit | edit source]
Thatdog was originally helping his friend moot, the creator of 4chan, implement a beta version of 4chan's archive feature, which is still in place today. They created the test board /r/ (Trains) to try out the feature, and many users from /b/ joined in to help. This inspired Thatdog to create an imageboard centered around trains which he launched launched on November 10, 2005. He aptly named it 1chan, a play on the word "monorail." It originally launched with four boards: /japan/, /monorail/, /usa/, and /crash. However, this was later shortened to just one board, /rail/, sometime in 2005 after a long downtime.
'p spam and spam attacks[edit | edit source]
Due to Russian CP being flooded on the board, thatdog, fearing the feds, shut down the site in June of 2016. A temporary board was set up on 8chan, until another clone site called RailChan, was set up. Since RailChan consists of the same users of 1chan much of what is on this page applies. At some point, the original 1chan site came back online. 1chan was still under constant attacks from spammers up until 2020, mostly from a schizophrenic korean.
Downfall[edit | edit source]
On October 3rd 2021, one lone soyteen attacked 1chan, successfully wiping around 2 pages. He was quickly banned and mocked by the admin and the site's users, not knowing this is just the start. October 4th 2021 was the start of a series of 3 raids by soyteens which forced the admin to implement manual post-approval, which killed the traffic of the site. The motive behind the raid mostly stems behind the sites age, filled with many old threads and nostalgic oldfags slobbering over it. The raids were massively successful, especially the first ones, which generated a massive amount of seethe both from oldfags on 1chan[2] and oldfags on /qa/.[3] The seethe from oldtroons on 1chan was quite immense, with one even accusing the innocent soyteen raid horde of being "fascists".

Death[edit | edit source]
The manual post-approval system destroyed 1chan's traffic. It used to see around 5-10 PPD, but after the manual post-approval system was implemented, the site started seeing periods of time where it would only get 5-10 posts PER MONTH. Several oldtroons who didn't want to participate in a 10-reply chain that would last for a month, along with Soyteens who wanted to raid the site, begged thatdog to remove it since it killed the site. However, he was adamant about keeping it because he was too much of a lazy nigger to hire a couple extra jannies and implement their own unique captcha involving trains.[4] 1chan would finally be laid to rest (in piss) on July 21, 2024, after nearly 21 years of shit nobody cares about. Its only legacy would be several gemmy raids and a seethepost on soyjak.party.[5]
