Gem Defender: Soyjak Survivors is a Bullet-Hell game where you play as Chud to kill enemies and bosses. This game was released from 23-24th October 2023 and was later updated to version 2 on March 1st 2024 and version 3 on February 21st 2025. It costs 4€ or 4$ to get on Steam.

Gameplay

It plays like Vampire Survivors with a good mix of Enter the Gungeon. You must dodge enemy projectiles and enemies by moving around the map. The enemies are depicted as different kinds of soyjaks, chud attacks towards your cursor when you click or automatically towards enemies that get into his attack range.

You can collect these glowing nigger orbs that you get from killing soyjaks to gain EXP. Once you gain enough, you level up which heals Chud to full and allows you to pick an upgrade to gem him up.

If enemies hit you, chud can eat the bugs that periodically spawn around the map to heal the lost hp. At the end of every level, there is a boss you have to fight to progress, after finishing you can also unlock a skin to change the appearance of your chud avatar.

The game functions in waves, where you must kill all of the enemies that spawn before proceeding to the next wave. The enemies you fight get tougher and tougher, eventually spawning in mini-bosses at later waves that have tons of HP but also give tons of EXP when killed. On the last wave, a boss that is unique to each level will spawn. After killing the boss, the level is beat.

After beating a level, you can replay it freely or skip straight to the boss of the level, which gives you the EXP the enemies would have given you automatically, allowing you to choose several upgrades in a row.

Premise

The land of Shartaia has just lost its last Gem. No one knows where it went except for Dr. Soystein, who's working on an evil plan in the Mental Asoylum. As Chud, a fearless lone wolf, you're out to save the world. Power through Soystein's nefarious army of 'jaks and take down the Asoylum in this atmospheric, gut-wrenching, jaw-clenching, slow burn, quasi-ironic survival shooter.

Development

The game is developed by a dev group called Gooncorp with developers Coby Dox and Chudd Howard. It was released on Steam at October 2023 to critical acclaim, with an update released on February of the next year that added new levels, weapons and requested features such as changes bosses. Coinciding with the game's OST being released to buy. A final update was supposed to release on February 14th 2025, but was delayed until the 21st.

3	The Mines	This place was once a hustling & bustling mineshaft, excavating Gems everyday. You'd be lucky to find Carbon here now. 4	Daycare	An underground bunker filled with to the brim[yes they wrote it like that] with child trafficking victims. Most have been brainwashed while others have been injected with experimental, more powerful strains of the Colorus. I knew he was behind that pandemic all along!	Grinlook Poggers	15

After this, a bunch of thougher babies will spawn; being visible via markers on your map in a spiral shape. Click on them to manually target them and enter the portal they're guarding.
7	Soystein's Office	Now that I took out Soystein's personnel, there's no one guarding his office. Dr. Soystein has seen me on the cameras and he's ready for this battle just as much as I am. It's time for a final showdown.	Dr. Soystein	3

Gameplay-Based
	Your Personal Army	Clear a stage with all weapons unlocked.	No	Accomplished by upgrading all avaivable weapons to level 1 or above in a stage.
	Negam Nuts!	Get the squirrel to level four.		You can get this by skipping to Soyburbia's boss and choosing the squirrel four times. If you don't get the squirrel enough times, you can try again.
	Getting Frooty	Clear a stage using only froot-based weaponry.		Easiest on Soyburbia. You can achieve this by only upgrading fruit-based weaponry. (Pearshooter, Keyed Lime, Apple etc.)
	Ace of Spades	Kill a boss without taking any damage.		You can easily do this by killing Chud's Mom.
	Isac Supreme	Get Isac Supreme to level four.		To do this, you need to go one of the Soytham City levels, and upgrade Isac Supreme to Level 4.
	ACK	Die 20 times in one sitting.
	VorteX	Use the alternate exit in Diphenhydramine.		Explained in the notes of Level Ϫ above.
	BABY LOVER	Spare Grinlook Poggers.		This one might be bugged.
	OMGSISA	The pillows have a surprise for you.		To do this, you need to destroy all of the Soytan pillows on Level Ϫ.
