Soot getting hoot with a wordfilter.

Wordfilters on websites replace a word with another word. The primary purpose of a wordfilter is to cripple discussion of things that the admins and powermods of a website do not like. They can be also be implemented as pranks and inside jokes at the expense of the userbase for a website's administration team to laugh at in their private communication network voice chats.

The onions community has been subject to wordfiltering since before it splintered from 4chan, and Basedjak.party has had many words filtered throughout its history.

They are implemented using regular expressions, which match text patterns.

Types of wordfilters

Wordfilters

The traditional wordfilter. Replaces one word with another as determined by the administration.

EXAMPLE: On most of 4chan, "soy" is filtered to "onions". If you wrote "I like soy" in the text box and clicked post, the resulting post would say "I like onions".

Event Wordfilters

Functionally identical to standard wordfilters, but different in application, these temporary event/holiday specific wordfilters aim to target every slang word or saying used on the site, and filter each of them to another word or saying related to the theme of an ongoing onsite event or holiday season. Event wordfilters are a longstanding tradition on the Froot-era sharty. Some soyteens love them, some hate them, but one truth beyond debate is that they massively disrupt communication, and make the sharty even more illegible for uninitiated onlookers than it already is naturally. Sometimes some of these filters can become permanent, such as the wordfilter of "shit" to "raisin", which was initially a halloween event wordfilter.

EXAMPLE: During the summer event, "faggot" was filtered to "beach bum".

Addition Word Filters

Addition word filters add something before or after the filtered word when it is posted.

Example: If you randomly get the Alicia nameroll on your post, it will have "im trans btw" appended to it.

Spam Wordfilters

Spam word filters posts containing the filtered word, resulting in an error message along the lines of "spam detected"

EXAMPLE: On the sharty, "fnfpedo" used to be word filtered. If your post had the word "fnfpedo" anywhere within it's text, the filter would activate, aborting the post and providing an error message.

Autoban Wordfilters

The most dangerous wordfilter; any IP that posts anything containing an autoban-filtered word will receive an automatic predetermined ban. Imageboard administrations LOVE to install these without any warning, resulting in many preventable casualties.

EXAMPLE: 4chan will automatically give a 3 day (unappealable) ban to any IP that makes a post containing the word "soyjak.party" or "basedjak.party" (to account for the wordfilter of soyjak).

Thread Moving Filters.

Words filtered by these filters cause threads containing to be automatically posted on a different specific board than the one that the poster was originally trying to post on.

EXAMPLE: Any thread containing the word "Sharty Culture" will automatically be posted on /qa/ regardless on what board the poster attempts to post it on.

Cosmetic Wordfilters

Wordfilters that add text effects to certain words when posted, such as red text, spin text or glow text. None of these are currently active, nor is there any documentation of these ever being in place. But they DID exist and YOU WILL NOT question the validity of this claim.

EXAMPLE: Before 2009 on 4chan's /b/, "penis" would filter to PENIS

Evading Wordfilters

Remember, wordfilters need to be explicitly programmed into the site and are thus very specific. If your post contains ANYTHING other than the exact characters in the exact specified arrangement programmed, the filter will not be tripped. Bypassing wordfilters is not against the rules, and it is a soyteen's civic duty to do so. If admins are REALLY obsessed, they can enter into an arms race with filter evaders (like 4chan did) or even flat out make bypassing a bannable offense. <--- Evading wordfilters is bannable now. To rebel against this, users can invent new slang and more creative bypasses until jannies are paranoid enough to start getting false positives and banning random people for the mildest suspicion of bypassing, which generally is sufficient enough to turn the majority against them and cause a revolt or community exodus from the website.
