Threadfagging is the act of talking in articles as if they were an imageboard thread, talk page, or discord chatroom. das aryan shemmycuck This is considered against the Manual of Style because it's messy[it just is, ok?] and makes the article look disorganized, cluttered, and self-contradictory as it gives readers the impression that the wiki itself can't agree on what to have on the page.. The ideal is for articles to look like they were written from the perspective of a single author and not multiple people disagreeing with each other or adding the digital equivalent of graffiti/sticky notes taped over existing signs.

The most common kinds of threadfagging[they just are, ok?] are people trying to talk to/with the page itself, or by trying to reach whoever they think the page author is by doing so in the article and not on the relevant editor's talk page.

It's commonly caused by nusois either missing the talk page for the article in question entirely (you can access it by clicking the "Discussion" tab at the very top of the page), or them not realizing that they can delete/replace content in pages instead of applying strikethrough formatting (like this) or adding text next to existing text claiming that ackshually the information is false and that the threadfagging editor's information is true and honest. <-- no it isn't

Particularly bad cases of threadfagging can result in editors threadfagging in response to threadfagging, creating a distracting mess that could potentially eclipse the actual content in the section/page itself. It's recommended to remove threadfagging from pages on sight to prevent this from happening I'm trans btw if that matters

How to stop threadfagging[edit | edit source]

  • Go to the talk page and discuss the page there instead of littering in the article
  • Be bold and replace outdated content instead of keeping it in. Page histories exist to preserve old versions of pages (unless a revision was suppressed for illegal content or links to such)
  • Use comment tags in the source editor that let you add text to the page that's only visible in the editor, such as this: <!-- Message here --> which becomes

Things that aren't threadfagging[edit | edit source]

  • Adding {{CitationNeeded}} templates to dubious or vague statements
  • Replacing outdated information
  • Soyquoting/Soydueling inside articles within reason (if it obstructs the article's actual content then move it to the bottom of the page)
