This page, and its contents... /calm/ing???

NO, FUCK YOU AND DIE

This event has seen very mixed reception among the wiki and may be either permanent, changed, or reverted. For the moment, do not take this page as concrete fact.
This subject has caused lots and lots of leakage on some talk pages.

The Gradingcaust is a controversial decision made by this very wiki's tranny jannies. Previously, pages would say that their own topic was gemmy, coally, iron, or any exaggeration of those three. However, Cobblestone announced that she would be removing all these templates, for varying reasons[1]

>The wiki should not present or try to control public opinion, it must ideally only present information and allow readers to come to their own conclusion.
>Topic quality templates are a catalyst for useless edit wars.
>Topic qualities are subjective, and reflect only the opinion of the latest editor to edit the page. Just because someone thinks something is coal or a gem doesn't mean that the wiki should cater to their opinion. If someone has good reason to grade a topic, they may just edit the article itself to prove their viewpoint.

A bot was created to remove broken links resulting from this, and it made over 1,500 edits in one day, surpassing even Cob herself on the leaderboard. Unsurprisingly, this caused mass seethe, with some editors opposing it.

Supporter points[edit | edit source]

  • Readers should form their own perspective on a topic instead of needing someone else's opinion told to them.
  • It incentivises edit wars, check Quote and Ongezellig's edit history, you'll find a lot of edits that are mostly just changing the rating template
    • It also incentivises low quality contributions
  • Their usecase is weak, because it's just a preview of the page's content or contradictory to it
  • Most rating templates were just duplicates of existing ones but intended to be more extreme, despite the templates' substance still being "someone thinks this is good/bad". None of them had any dividing lines between them in usecase, resulting in useless edits because someone disagreed with whether something is brimstone or vantablack or whatever "I dislike this" template they feel like using.
  • Saves screen real estate for actually pertinent content about the topic itself, rather than some arbitrary opinion presented before or without any reasoning.
  • If something is considerably good or bad then the article itself should already make it clear without needing a template.

Detractor points[edit | edit source]

  • Removing them is opposed by the majority of soyteens. [fuck the irresponsibility of nusois letting threads get slid]
  • They are integral to the wiki's culture.
  • The templates signal the general opinion of soyteens.
  • Removing {{CustomQuality}} raped a lot of informative one-off headers. [it just did, ok???]
  • Edit wars will merely take up entire pages as opposed to the template spam that the Gradingcaust is SUPPOSED to prevent. (block speedrun any%)
  • Nusois actually use this shit to get a general overview of the perception of certain contents on the Sharty, but the majority dont base their opinion around it.
  • The Soyjak Wiki is ultimately not a carbon copy of wikipedia. (so is every other wiki though)
  • Edit wars are a thing that keeps this site alive. KEK DO NUSOIS REALLY???? JSID!!!!!
