Gorilla

Gorillas are a large species of mostly herbivorous great apes native to equatorial Africa. And contrary to what you may think, gorillas are not monkeys and are great apes like you and me. As a matter of fact, gorillas are one of humans closest living relatives, sharing around 98% of our DNA and THEY DO NOT FEAST ON BANANAS REGULARLY. [meds...]
Nature and biology
[edit | edit source]Obviously, gorillas are huge. They are the largest great apes alive and on average weigh several hundred lbs depending on gender. the average male silverback gorilla weighs 300-500 lbs. Male gorillas are usually double the weight of female gorillas.

Gorillas skull is a massive robust bone that features large brow ridges, protruding jaw, sagittal crest, and a relatively small cranium. They also possess 32 teeth of varying size.
Gorilla height varies from species to species, the average height across all is 4ft-6ft standing on its hind legs.
Behavior
[edit | edit source]Gorillas are very intelligent animals, they are known to be one of the few animals capable of making and using tools. They have the intelligence of a 3 year old human usually (meaning they are usually more intelligent than sub Saharan Africans). Gorillas can also be taught sign language, notably Koko the gorilla who could sign over 1,000 words. gorillas can comprehend complex and overwhelming emotions such as grief and sadness.
Gorillas are social animals who operate in a similar way to human families. These groups of gorillas are known as troops. Gorillas are peaceful despite what they might tell you, but this doesn't mean they aren't extremely territorial. Gorillas often engage in warfare with other troops over resources and territory. They also can communicate with grunts and whatnot because they lack complex vocal tract features like a low larynx, flexable tongues, and fine respiratory control.
They also sling their feces at people, absolute giga behavior.
Relation to humans
[edit | edit source]Gorillas and humans are extremely similar, we share most traits and are very similar in appearance. Its believed that gorillas and humans split 10 million years ago. gorillas mostly focused on strength and size while humans focused on intelligence (look where that got them GEG).
habitat and lifestyle
[edit | edit source]Gorillas are mostly found in equatorial Africa, specifically the tropical rainforests of Gabon, equatorial guinea, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (for some reason). Gorillas also usually live in lower elevation areas like river basins and swamps.
Gorillas are foragers and are herbivorous, Despite having massive, powerful canines. The canines are mostly for intimidation and fighting than actual meat eating. (They're like hippos in the sense that they're only a defense mechanism).
A troop of gorillas is lead by the dominant male silverback. and when a male silverback gorilla dies, the young are often killed by the female parents (ITS JUSTIFIED BECAUSE OF POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION OR SOMETHING).
