The moral high ground is an important subject in internet flame war theory, first described by sociologist Lee Goldson in the mid 2010's. It can be described an inherent rightness or wrongness associated with one of the combatants in a flame war, usually based on which side receives more support from the general audience.

There are multiple ways to show that you have the moral high ground, including but not limited to: proving that the other side is wrong using peer reviewed facts, dropping a trvke on them, winning a soyduel, showing that the other side isn't white or are part of a group that you don't like, etc.

However, there are also many ways to forfeit the moral high ground, such as by making a fool of yourself, sending out death threats, blocking or reporting the other side, or losing a soyduel, among many others.
