Source is a game engine developed by Valve. It is the successor to GoldSrc and was released in 2004, though it was worked on as early as 1999.[1] Source is best known for being Valve's main game engine up until it was succeeded by Source 2. Many autists and trannies are obsessed with Source and games that run on it, such as Team Fortress 2. Apparently it was ahead of it's time for 2004, that's what oldfags will tell you anyway.[2]

Development[edit | edit source]

Source was preceeded by GoldSrc, which is the engine Half-Life runs on. GoldSrc itself is a fork of the Quake engine.[3] Development for Source began alongside work for Half-Life 2, starting around 1999. In it's earliest known form it had very basic physics, improved lighting, and textures and models that didn't look like shit.[4] In 2003 a beta version of the engine would be leaked as part of Half-Life 2 by Axel Gembe. It had significant improvements over the 2000 version.[it just did, okay?] The Source Engine would first be previewed at E3 2003 (technically it ACTUALLY first previewed at Siggraph 2000), and the first game to use it was an early version of Counter-Strike Source.

Features of Source[edit | edit source]

  • Improved physics - Source uses a modified version of the Havok physics engine for its physics.
  • Improved AI - NPCs are less retarded and can do more things.[they just can, okay?]
  • Improved facial animations - NPCs no longer talk by opening and closing their mouth like a fish.
  • Other SNCA.

Hammer Editor[edit | edit source]

The Hammer editor is the main tool used to create maps and things for Source. It is best known for being horrible to work with and buggy. It was originally called WorldCraft, as this was the name of the original Quake editor Valve bought to use as their editor for GoldSrc. It is part of the Source SDK alongside the model viewer and face poser.

SFM[edit | edit source]

An animation tool for Source. It is either used to make gemmy short films (ev&oe you can do this in gmod too) or porn.

Source 2[edit | edit source]

debut game was about a foid award

Source 2 is the coalier version of Source. Notice how almost no mods have been made on Source 2? This is because Valve refuses to release any real modding tools for it, and it's practically worse than Source in every way. Also it has VR support.[5] The main Source 2 games are Half-Life Alyx and Counter-Strike 2.

Source games[edit | edit source]

There's more but nobody plays or cares about them.

  • Half-Life 2 - The sequel to the first Half-Life. You are put into a city in Eastern Europe and kill 300 gorillion alien soldiers or however the citadel is built. Also there's a town full of zombies which is the best part of the game.
  • Half-Life 2: Episode 1/2 - Sequels to Half-Life 2, for some reason they aren't one single game. The first one is boring and you try to leave the city before the citadel explodes. The second one is still boring and you're in a forest and have to get a base in a car.
  • Counter-Strike Source - Basically just Counter-Strike 1.6 but on Source. Higher quality and the best Counter-Strike game.
  • Team Fortress 2 - A PVP game where you play as 8 classes with the goal of completing some objective. You can also gamble for golden pans or whatever. Has a mixed fanbase of troons and chuds.
  • Left 4 Dead 2 - Gemmy game in which you play as one of four survivors and have to kill waves of zombies.
  • Garry's Mod - Sandbox game where you can do nearly anything. There's also RP servers full of power-tripping admins, degens, and braniggers. You can spawn a ton of explosive barrels on these servers to mine some seetheralds though.
  • Day of Defeat Source - Basically TF2 but during WW2. Sadly the game is a DNB nowadays.
  • Portal - A really boring game where you place portals to solve puzzles and shit. Troons love it because it's not heckin v**lent.
  • Black Mesa - A remaster of the original Half-Life. It's iron.
  • Half-Life 3
  • You (meds im not a source game)

Relations to the Soysphere[edit | edit source]

There are lots of soyjak mods and other related things for source games, and the sharty hosts servers for CSS, TF2, GMod, and L4D2. Many 'teens also enjoy Source games.
