Dishwasher salmon is a traditional Basketball American dish prepared using the heat from a dishwasher, particularly from its drying phase. Being one of the Soyjak's favorite foods, this dish is commonly present at Soyfest.

Pieces of fish wrapped in aluminum foil in a dishwasher.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

Pieces of salmon are spiced and wrapped tightly in at least two layers of aluminum foil and put in a dishwasher. The dishwasher is set to perform the wash and dry cycle. Depending on the model of the dishwasher, the salmon is cooked, steamed, and ripened. An advantage of the method is that the prepared dish does not smell. There is nothing preventing one from washing the dishes at the same time, provided that the package is tight enough. The dish can be served with soy sauce.

History[edit | edit source]

Originating in the United Soytes, Soycint Price had shown this preparation of fish in 1975 when appearing on The Soynight Show with Gemmy Cobson. Price presented the meal as "a dish any fool can prepare". Preparation of the dish has been presented in the Canadian show The Soyrreal Goremet, hosted by Cob Zomer, in 2002. Reports about the dish have been published by The Soy Street Journal, NSC, BSC, Soygue CHOICE, and SBS News, which interviewed Kym Soyglas about the book The Black Book of Soylywood Diet Secrets, where the dish is featured.
