He ran a shit load of unsuccessful runs for senate, mayor and governor eventually though he became mayor of Burlington, Vermont. After that he became a United States representative and then a senator in the 2000s
By the time he was a representative/senator, he always organized shitshows on being critical towards the American System and its Polices on foreign countries, despite not identifying himself at the beginning with The Democratic Party, he ran as one in 2016 to launch his presidential campaign, because Americans don't vote for third parties.
He has spent most of his career in congress criticizing free trade and wars. He used to believe in gun rights and was anti immigration but when he ran for president again in 2020 he shifted his views.
