Nihilists don't see themselves as negative pessimists (which they are), because they are "seeing the world for what it really is", which makes sense for a belief in the idea that all values are baseless, including self-reflection.
Friedrich Nietzsche identified nihilism as the final step for the degeneration of the western values he saw in his time. Redditheists, who can't be bothered actually reading, thought he intended nihilism to be a way of life; they also thought that when he wrote "God is dead" he was literally talking about God. Nietzsche failed completely and his warnings about the decadence of ethics and morality served as a boost instead of a caution sign. Optimistic nihilism is the "ethical" guideline that every true soyjak follows. It is a bastardization of nihilism, using its message of life being ultimately meaningless to draw a conclusion that basically boils down to "but you have to follow our ideology anyways, be a hedonist consumer and don't you DARE be hecking bigoted" (which goes against everything nihilism stood for but just trust the fucking experts okay??). In other words it's just absurdism absurdism is not optimistic nihilism, absurdists have a search for "the absurd", so that they do want a nonsensical meaning in their actions as opposed to no meaning.
