The Mineral Rating System (MRS) is a top secret coded system in which things are classified through minerals^{[no shit]} such as gems, coal, or other related materials. To outsiders with no knowledge of Soyence or Soylore, these appear to be innocuous terms that simply describe the quality of something, and serve as subjective quality markers. Thoughever, each rating category is based on deep philosophical and sociological thought and study that only the smartest members of civilization can comprehend. The MRS is the main focus of the soyentific field of Gemology, which 'teens are constantly researching.

It should be noted that the average human brain can intuitively distinguish between only two degrees of positive or negative emotional intensity. This is the reason why the most popular rating system is composed of only five core ratings (brimstone, coal, iron, gem, gemerald), and why more subjective and niche terms such as rust or topaz are not used as often. This, however, does not mean that the ratings outside of the most common 5 are useless, though, as the MRS is meant to be a simple but comprehensive guide to rating everything in the Soysphere without over-complicating things.

Following the Gradingcaust, most of the ratings on this page aside from the main ratings (which are still used in common soyspeak) have lost their relevance, as their main usage was Wiki-based. While some secondary ratings, such as Topaz, Tanzanite, and Dust, still remain, do keep in mind while scrolling this page as most of the secondary ratings do not have much usage anymore and that you will probably look like an autist if you try too hard to use them in your day-to-day soypseak.

History

The first rating to emerge was gem. Gem was initially in the form of the phrase "bumping this gem" which has been a somewhat common way to bump a post in 4chan since at least 2011. The Soymmunity on /int/ first began frequently using "bumping this gem" under soyjak threads on July-August 2020 mostly thanks to two anons, one American and one Brazilian. A famous thread on /qa/ by soot advertising "a shitty imageboard" in which "basedjaks must be in every thread" was also bumped this way on September 2020, and before the end of that year, gem became the standard way to denote or describe a high-quality soyjak.

It is unknown whether coal first started gaining prominence on the very early 'arty itself or on /qa/, but the first verifiable instances of coal being posted as an antonym to gem are in the form of "saging this absolute coal" on October 2020. Coal fully acquired its modern standalone form and meaning in 2021.

Main ratings

These are the most commonly used ratings, ordered from gemmiest to coaliest:

• The gem that saved the Party – Describes a gemerald with extraordinary qualities. Usually describes large winraids and successful soymmunity projects.
• Gemerald – Displaying the most exemplary qualities. It will likely make history. Typically refers to a video or an adventure thread.
• Gem - Good quality and memorable.
• Ruby – An unrefined gem that needs some polishing.
• Iron – Used to refer to things neutrally; basically used the same as carbon.
• Coal – Used for otherwise bad or poorly made raisin. Coal still has SOVL and a few redeeming qualities nevertheless. Your first soyjak edit fits into this classification. Some soyjaks are deserving of this title, such as all the irrelevant SoyBooru countrywar edits, slopjaks, etc.
• Vantablack – Dustier than coal, has light-absorbing properties which gives it a dark appearance. Some forced memes and forced variants fall under this category. All the false poopsons and banned variants fall under this category due to even the jannies hating them.
• Brimstone– Describes vantablack with sulfuric characteristics. Despite this, vantablack and brimstone are used almost interchangeably on this wiki, so you should take them as equals. Normally refers to, bad NAS, porn, gore, or troonslop no sane human being enjoys.
• Antimatter – Coal of coals, Brimstone of brimstones. The coal that is killing the Party. So potent in its awfulness that it annihilates any regular matter that comes into contact with it. Refers to immoral, illegal content.
• The coal that killed the Party – Describes extremely volatile and vile material. Truly horrendous and is far worse compared to antimatter. Generally refers to anything that could have caused the death of the Party. Not to be confused with the SNCA entries on this page.

Secondary ratings

• Supernova – Gem of Gems, Gemerald of Gemeralds. The gem that will save the Party. So potent that its amazingness annihilates any regular matter that comes in contact with it.
• Tanzanite – A Truthnuke of extremely high magnitude and power. Used only to describe pages on this very wiki.
• Topaz – A type of Gem that didn't take its meds. Used to describe well-made schizoposts.
• Vantapurple - Something so meaningless/confusing that it passes even Topaz in its incomprehensibility. Mostly used for incredibly schizophrenic forms of nonsense and 'O.
• Rust – Lower than iron, but can become iron with treatment. Kuz used this term frequently.
• Dust - Anemic coal. Has no SOVL or redeeming qualities, and will be lost in the sands of time; a completely irrelevant post. Accounts for most twitterjaks and neutralplier blogposting threads.
• Singularity – (Antimatter + The coal that killed the Party)⁹⁹⁹. Will kill the soyverse.

Obscure ratings (nobody says these)

• Cem/geal/goal/coam^{[No one says this though]} – A mixture of gem and coal. This portrays qualities of both its greater and lesser components. For example,"Coal with gemmy qualities".
• Filled/Empty – Used by the Cult of Jarboy as alternatives for gem/coal respectively.
• Spit/Slobber – Alleged by time travellers to eventually replace gem/coal respectively.
• ID'd/IV'd – Identified ratings for everything Vinluv related, likely from 4ch/tv/
• Vantadeath – NO!NO!NO!NO!NO!ultimate sharty and soyverse-killing brimstone belongs to, the WORST of the WORST EVER.^{[meds now]}
