Email, short for Electronic Mail, is a digital method of exchanging messages and files over the network. The term refers to both the messaging system itself and the individual messages. Most sharty staff have an email in which (You) can contact them through. (You) can also add your own email to any wiki that uses MediaWiki, including this very wiki.
Unlike popular belief[meds], Gmail is not the only email provider out there, there are many, such as Proton and Tuta Mail. If (you) own a domain, you can have your own custom email (e.g. nusoifail@BBC.com). Most sharty staff emails are on soyjak.st.
Email providers[edit | edit source]
Below is a list of email providers:
- Gmail - do not use Gmail at all costs, not only does it require you to add a name, it also requires you to add date of birth and your phone number. most people get doxed because they use Gmail. and if you do use it, keep it as your own personal email. Do NOT advertise or reveal your Gmail address on soysphere or soysphere related sites, including splinters, or any booru site in general to be honest. You will be doxed, and Rapeson will show up at your door as well as crackheads, and pizza delivery men. Supports desktop email clients.
- Proton - a much better service, most sharty staff use Proton, if not @soyjak.st. does not require your name/phono/date of birth, or any info about you. Will spam you with promotional emails for the first few weeks of creating an account. Glows slightly.
- Tutanota - Similar to Proton but you have to wait 24 hours before you can send and receive emails.
- Cock.li - Supports desktop email clients but optionally has a web interface. Extremely easy to sign up but you have to wait ~10 minutes to do a proof of work captcha before being able to send email. Breaks often.
- Outlook, formerly Hotmail - Somewhat easy to create an account but will force you to add another email or phono after 7 days.[it just is, ok?] Supports desktop email clients.
- AOL - Rotting dead nigger email provider that still is up somehow. Requires another email to create an account.[it just is, ok?]
Setting up your own mail[edit | edit source]
Using stuff such as Mail-In-A-Box (used on the sharty, btw[1], you can set up your own mail provider given you have your own domain.
On MediaWiki[edit | edit source]
By adding your email to your wiki account you can receive emails without giving away your actual email address. Users can send email to you via Special:EmailUser. Their email will be sent to you via noreply@soyjak.st. By replying to this email you reply to their email directly, and you give away your own email in the process. By sending email to someone via Special:EmailUser, you give the recipient your email address (obviously).
