A CAPTCHA is a response-based testing program designed to tell humans and bots apart. The term was coined in 2003 by four computer scientists, originating from a contrived acronym: Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.
The Sharty has used multiple Captchas in the past, to deter bot nets from spamming the website. On the Sharty, CAPTCHAs are controversial, due to providing inconvenience, and concerns over datamining. Other websites in the Soysphere have also used captchas.
