WebP
TL;DR get this firefox extension or this chrome extension
WebP (extension .webp) also known as web'p is an image format that was created by the devil himself and has since been adopted and frequently utilized by us mortals. Some theorize that over 80% of images on the internet are now formatted as a .webp, many of them coincidently being the EXACT images that you want to upload to imageboards such as soyjak.party.
AVIF is slightly less circular and is more efficient, aldoe it has even less compatibility. This format is optimized for thumbnailing.

History[edit | edit source]

The (((people who control the internet))) want us to believe that .webp was created by Google (of course) back in September 2010 as a replacement for the jpeg and png file formats (even though those two formats were fine despite all the memes that people made about them around the time).[1]
Why it sucks[edit | edit source]
As mentioned before, .webp is not a supported file format on a lot of websites where users upload digital images. The reason why it isn't compatible is because it's an absolute bitch to encode and decode these files. Look up "The seven layers of OSI", I don't really have the patience to explain this. Also, for some reason the lossy-ness of these images is off the charts level of bad, which ironically Google was trying to fix.
>nooo i want to pay more for my internet bill by using jpg instead of webp
Neutral perspective[edit | edit source]
It's alright, because it saves website bandwidth, letting you upload faster and letting people see your kino faster. It is also supported in Paint since Windows 10 and Photoshop since v23.2, and can reduce the size of AI gigas by 97%.Converting gigas also combats the potential for embeds by removing exif data o algo.
Getting around it[edit | edit source]
The most Aryan (and possibly lossless) way to get past WebP is to download the image using wget.
If you want to post the image that's being stored as a webp file, first you have to save the file onto your computer, then you have to go to a file conversion site like https://ezgif.com/webp-maker, then select which operation you want and then download it.
A faster alternative would be pasting it into an image editor like paint.net or whatever and then saving the newly pasted in image as a .png
A lot of sites know that webp is dogshit and accordingly don't actually store webp files on their servers until you(r browser) requests it―they only use the format to reduce the load on their servers and generate it from the original jpg or png, only storing it temporarily. This and the corresponding quality loss of the image in question (which usually is minimal but can be substantial if the server does the conversion shittily) can sometimes be avoided with an extension like "don't accept webp" for Firefox that removes 'webp' from the list of filetypes your browser states it accepts. Or if you're autistic you could use curl or wget and make the header yourself (e.g. Accept: image/png,image/svg+xml,image/jpeg,image/gif,image/x-xbitmap
, which purposely lacks image/webp
and image/avif
).
Getting around it: a version for not braindead macaca monkey gorila niggers edition[edit | edit source]
Step 1: open the .webp on your screen
Step 2: pull out dat snipping tool/screencloud
Step 3: you've just saved a .webp in white people format on your 'puter. Congratulations!
