GIF

A GIF, or (((jif))) if your jewish, is an image format that allows animation. You usually never see them go above 15 seconds on most platforms and websites, because otherwise the file size would be absurdly large.

It is also a word that people extensively debate the pronunciation over, suggesting it should be pronounced either with a hard G (as in "glasses", "game" and "grass", or with a soft G (as in "gem", "gym" and "genius".) In 2013, soyboy Stephen Wilhite, the man who invented GIFs itself, came out and said "ermm it’s achtually pronounced with a soft G" but nobody cared and people still pronounced it as whatever they wanted.

In Soyjakology GIF can be used to create new subvariants unique to the format. So far, Selfish Little Fuck and Boat Rammer are the only two soyjaks to be GIFs specifically. It is also very common to see soyjaks being posted as GIFs.

Format

GIF images can be animated, but they only support 256 colors as opposed to the thousands supported by other image formats. This limitation is why GIFs tend to look lower in quality when they are taken from videos. They are compressed using a lossless technique, meaning the file size is reduced without the visual quality being degraded.

Additionally, GIFs can include an alpha channel, which allows them to have a transparent background instead of a solid color block. This makes them gemmy and super handy for floating graphics and simple web animations.
