This topic is literally IRC |
IRC or Internet Relay Chat is an ancient text-only messaging client best known for hosting the #soy server on rizon.net irc.soyjak.st. It also hosts the official 4chan server, presumably because IRC is home to many ERP (Erotic Role Play) servers which jannies regularly use in lieu of real sex. You WILL NOT create an account just to spam them with ASCIIjaks.

IRC uses a plain text protocol, which is essentially a set of standardized commands and responses that clients and servers use, understand, and exchange. For instance, to join a channel called #soy, one might send the following command:
/join #soy
To send a message to everyone in a channel, one might use a command like this:
/privmsg #soy :erm, why is this so dead?
IRC channels are specialized rooms reserved for specific topics, much like online discussion boards. IRC remains popular due to its open protocol, which is not controlled by any single entity. This characteristic highlights an important aspect of technology: sometimes the simplest solutions are the most durable.
This principle stands in contrast to more modern and complex systems, such as systemd.
