This page is a gem.

Gemology, also known as Soyence, is the study of original content relating to Soyjaks. Specifically, it is the ongoing effort to define the many labels within Soy Culture, such as Gem, Coal, Tanzanite, and Brimstone, and is not limited solely to the study of gems. In fact, Gemologists spend far more time studying coal than they do gems, as a core tenant of Gemology is the avoidance of coal and its tiers. Gemology, in a simple but accurate description, is the study, improvement, and even creation of the Mineral Rating System and discussion on how to define each of its labels. It is a profession only studied and practiced by very few devout 'teens and lifeless oldfags, as it involves spending an unhealthy[1] chunk of one's personal time talking about Soyjaks and everything related to them. It often boils down to what is most widely considered to be coally or gemmy, and therefore is subject to EXTREME bias and is very hard to actually study, define, and most importantly standardize, if that is even possible. The goal of Gemology is to teach people how to make gems and how to avoid coal.

Findings[edit | edit source]

Mineral Rating System[edit | edit source]

One of the most crucial innovations in Gemology is the Mineral Rating System, or MRS. This system allowed for different things (variants, 'toss, and even concepts) to be sorted into different tiers by their quality, and where they place on the Snopes rating system.

The tiers of the MRS, as listed on its 'wiki page[2], go as follows:

  • The gem that saved the Party – Describes gemeralds with extraordinary qualities. Usually describes great winraids and successful community projects.
  • Gemerald – Displaying the most exemplary qualities. It will likely make history. Typically refers to a video or an adventure thread.
  • Gem - Good quality and memorable.
  • Ruby – An unrefined gem that needs some polishing.
  • Iron – Used to refer to things neutrally; basically used the same as carbon.
  • Coal – Used for otherwise bad or poorly made raisin. Coal still has SOVL and a few redeeming qualities nevertheless. Your first soyjak edit fits into this classification. Some soyjaks are deserving of this title, such as all the irrelevant SoyBooru countrywar edits, slopjaks, etc.
  • Vantablack – Dustier than coal, has light-absorbing properties which gives it a dark appearance. Some forced memes and forced variants fall under this category. All the false poopsons and banned variants fall under this category due to even the jannies hating them.
  • Brimstone– Describes vantablack with sulfuric characteristics. Normally refers to, bad NAS, porn, gore, or troonslop no sane human being enjoys. Despite this, vantablack and brimstone is almost used interchangeably on this wiki so you should take them as equally bad (both of them are shit that should generally be avoided although nowhere near as bad as antimatter).
  • Antimatter – Coal of coals, Brimstone of brimstones. The coal that is killing the Party. So potent in its awfulness that it annihilates any regular matter that comes into contact with it.
  • The coal that killed the Party – Describes extremely volatile and vile material. Truly horrendous and is usually worse compared to antimatter. Generally refers to anything that could have caused the death of the Party or anything that someone disliked in general. Not to be confused with the SNCA entries on this page.

Defining the main terms[edit | edit source]

There are, as you have just witnessed, the main classifications on the MRS. These terms were loosely defined in that list, and many debate what truly is a Gem, and where the line between Iron and Coal is drawn, as well as many other parts of the MRS. Many believe that coal can become gemmy through a process called refining/Coking, though nobody says this anymore[it just is, ok?], and that anything below coal can never become gemmy due to it being inherently bad, or rotten to the core as some would say. Some refined coals you may know are Cobson, Chudjak[the only NAS gem], and the Sharty itself[most of the non-soy shit on /QA/ was brimmy]. Some debate whether the term gem exclusively refers to soy-adjacent content or to high-quality good things in general, with many agreeing with the former, and many believing coal to refer to everything that they don't like, despite it being a term that was once Soyjak-exclusive. For now, the system above works very well, and most likely will not change for as long as the Soysphere is alive, though what falls under said terms will probably change quite a bit.

What makes a gem gemmy?[edit | edit source]

To be researched: What is a gem? Can (You) help us?

For this section, gemminess refers to the Gem rating and everything above it. To actually list off what makes a gem gemmy is very difficult, but a few things you can go by are:

  • High quality/effort
  • Enjoyment by 'teens and 'jakkers
  • Relevance to modern events/discourse
  • Ethereal values such as coolness and correctness[biased as FUCK]

What makes coal coally?[edit | edit source]

To be researched: What is coal? Can (You) help us?

For this section, coalliness refers to the Coal rating and everything below it. Coal is much easier to define, as sadly, it is very common and has more basis both in objective fact and morality. Coal, usually, is:

  • Low quality/effort
  • Disdain for people's eyes
  • Praise of things/people considered morally bad by most people
  • Connection to Rule 3 breakers

The future of Gemology[edit | edit source]

The future of Gemology is very murky, as new innovations are constantly found and new breakthroughs made, and as more coal floods the 'ru and every inch of the Soysphere, it is a bleak one. The future of Gemology lies in (you)r hands, the hands of the users of the Soysphere, and (sadly) in the hands of Newfags.

YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO GEMOLOGY.
