Convertibles (also named Cabriolets) are passenger cars with a manually/electronically retractable/removable roof, offering an open-air driving experience while maintaining the overall stats of a fixed-roof car. If a Convertible has two doors and the entirety of its roof (with or without the windscreen) is hidden/removed upon conversion, it is usually refered to as a Roadster. Strangely enough, four-door cars could also be equipped with a retractable roof. Four-doors with the entirety of their roofs being operable are not given any separate name, whereas  four-doors that have only the rear portion of the roof functional are called Landaulets and those with the front of the roof being open are called Broughams.

A Targa-Top is a two-door car that only the patch of the roof between the A- and the B-pillars can be removed from. Targa-Tops are made so as a compromise between rollover safety and open-air experience, similar to the T-Tops that are close to Targa-Tops with the addition of a bar in the middle of a roof.

Sportscars are defined by performance rather than body style. The current threshold could be equated to being able to reach 62mph from standstill in below 6 seconds and to exceed 150mph. Body Types[edit | edit source]

Sedan[edit | edit source]

The most stereotypically generic of them all. Sedans (or saloons) are four-door three-box passenger cars designed for everyday practicality and seating four to five passengers. It used to be the NPC of cars before the advent of the crossover SUV.

Hatchback[edit | edit source]

Hatchbacks are compact three-to-five-door two-box passenger cars with a rear hatch door and a flexible cargo area. There are multiple cars offered as both Sedan and Hatchback body types for the same model. How awesome!

Coupe[edit | edit source]

Coupes are two-door three-box passenger cars marketed either to be the lighter and cheaper counterpart of the Sedan or to be sportier. The current majority of the Coupes is front-engined and can seat four passengers, similarly to the Sedans they are based on, though some older Coupes were mid/rear-engined sans the sufficient performance for them to be profound Sportscars.

Minivan[edit | edit source]

Minivans (also called people movers or MPVs, short for multi-purpose vehicles) are spacious family vehicles designed to carry six and above passengers. Depending on the Minivan and your government's jurisdiction, a the vehicle could be deemed a microbus than a car. The Minivans of today are typically equipped with rear sliding doors, providing access to multiple seating rows. This is also the vehicle my wife susan uses to pick up the kids after the soccer game! Wowza!

SUV[edit | edit source]

SUVs (short for sport utility vehicles) are body-on-frame/unibody three-to-five-door two-box vehicle. Like the Minivan, an SUV could be seen as a truck by the government. The name of the class used to mean something in the past, but SUVs nowadays are just grocery-getters like everything else.

Pickup Truck[edit | edit source]

>It's actually just Truck or something

Pickup trucks are utility vehicles with an open cargo bed more often than not sharing their underpinnings with the SUVs, built for hauling, towing, and handling demanding work or outdoor activities. Just like SUVs, hardly anyone uses them for their intended purpose anymore. (Despite the absolute dogshit mileage they get and the people who daily drive them complain about gas prices the most)

Convertible[edit | edit source]

Targa Top[edit | edit source]

A Targa-Top is a two-door car that only the patch of the roof between the A- and the B-pillars can be removed from. Targa-Tops are made so as a compromise between rollover safety and open-air experience, similar to the T-Tops that are close to Targa-Tops with the addition of a bar in the middle of a roof.

Sports[edit | edit source]

Sportscars are defined by performance rather than body style. The current threshold could be equated to being able to reach 62mph from standstill in below 6 seconds and to exceed 150mph. There are many subtypes to what could be a sportscar. Grand Tourers are either performance trims of a Coupe/Convertible/Sedan or separate models with bodies mentioned above, both adjusted for a comfortable long-distance travel at the cost of handling precision, weight and cost. True Sportscars are typically mid/rear-engined and come with some sort of racing pedigree. From true Sportscars, Super and Hypercars are born. Their threshold are bumped to below 4 seconds 0-62 and above 200mph top speed for Supercars to below 3.5 seconds 0-62 and above 240mph for Hypercars.

History[edit | edit source]

The first real automobiles were built by german engineering in the late 1800s. They sucked in terms of performance and reliability, yet somehow still convinced everyone they were the future.

The next big achievement came when the US started making their own cars to meet the demand of a massive nation with limited public transit. Henry Ford discovered that if you make workers do the same thing thousands of times a day, you can build millions of cars, in an event know as the second industrial revolution or something. The Automobile has since grown (along with shrinking very soon) into a cultural, political and status statement for everyone else to behold. Slightly later, Chinks started making their own cars to replace imported American and British vehicles and to foster domestic industrial independence and other shit weeaboos cares fan about, which has developed into a serious response to the largely overweight and underengineered US-originated landyachts during some 'flinging with Arabs.

In turn of the Millennium, we got electric cars and computers controlling almost everything. Nowadays, they can park themselves, brake before you notice any danger[1], and force you to buy subscriptions for heated seats. The future promises flying cars, but autisticGODS insists that their 1993 Nissan maxima is the peak of vehicular engineering.
