Japan[a] is an island country in East Asia situated on the Japanese archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. Among soyteens, Japan is best known for anime and their involvement in World War II. The first imageboard, Futaba Channel, was Japanese, therefore the Sharty wouldn't exist without Japan, if that matters.

History

[edit | edit source]

Classical and feudal eras

[edit | edit source]

The first Japanese state was established in 660 BC by Emperor Jimmu. Though, historians believe that Jimmu is mythological, and that only the emperors starting with Yuryaku (the 21st) are real.

In 1185, Japan became under the rule of the shogunate, lead by Minamoto no Yoritomo who took the title shogun. While the Emperor title still existed, all political power was concentrated in the shogun's hands.

In 1333, the emperor overthrew the shogunate, but three years later, a new shogun took over by the name of Ashikaga Takauji; the shogun used the daimyos to exert political power over the country. Nothing of note happened until 1467, when a civil war erupted being largely attributed to a succession crisis and several other internal issues, starting the century-long Sengoku period.

Eventually, a daimyo named Oda Nobunaga was able to take over the capital until he ACKed himself. These circumstances would lead to a man named Toyotomi Hideyoshi taking over, and Toyotomi would reunify Japan. He died in 1598, but before he died he asked somebaldis to take care of his son until he was old enough. One of them, Tokugawa Ieyasu, ended up consolidating power for himself. In 1603, he declared himself shogun, establishing the Tokugawa Shogunate and starting the Edo period which spanned over two centuries.

In 1639, Japan isolated itself by enacting a policy which barred anybody from leaving or entering the country. There were a few exceptions, notably the Dutch, the Chinese, and Koreans; these exceptions were only made for trading and the nationals of these countries were confined to small trading posts established in port cities such as Kagoshima.

Imperial era

[edit | edit source]

Some mutt named Matthew Perry was sent on an expedition in order to demand Panda Express be opened or however the rice is grown, ending Japan's two-century long period of isolation. Subsequent treaties with other Western nations negatively affected Japan's economy and politics, starting a civil war between those who supported the Shogunate and those who supported restoration of Imperial rule. In 1868, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun, was overthrown and Emperor Meiji became the leader of Japan. The Empire of Japan was established through the Meiji Constitution, thus beginning modern Japanese history. Japan rapidly industrialized, becoming the most developed and militarized nation in Asia. They took over Taiwan and southern Sakhalin in the first Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War respectively. They also seized several German colonies in China and the Pacific during World War I.

World War II

Japsissies...

In 1931, Japan invaded China and established the puppet state of Manchukuo after a year of fighting with a full-scale invasion of China being launched in 1937. The Japanese captured several major cities such as Nanjing and Shanghai.

After China signed a non-agression pact with the Soviets in 1937, Hitler ended Germany's alliance with China deciding that Japan would be a better ally. Japan would later become an Axis power after signing the Tripartite Pact in 1940. Despite allying with the Axis powers, the Japanese didn't participate in the Holocaust and didn't endorse any policy against Jews unlike other Axis powers.[1] In fact, after occupying Shanghai, they permitted the arrival and settlement of Jewish refugees from Europe into the city.[2]

A major turning point in the war was when Japan launched a suprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Because of this, the United States joined the war. The Japanese continued to expand their reach across the Pacific by invading Southeast Asia, occupying most of the region.

During the war, Japan committed war crimes the likes of which would make Israel jealous. To relieve their gooner urges, the Japanese began making women into "comfort women" (i.e. sex dolls). They also raped, murdered, and looted many civilians, most notably in the Rape of Nanjing. To this day, the Japanese deny any war crimes that took place, and if they don't then they'll say that the crimes were exaggerated.

After the Nazis were defeated in 1945, the United States decided to nuke Hiroshima in the name of freedom or something and dropped a second nuke on Nagasaki three days later. The Soviet Union subsequently invaded Manchukuo, Korea, and Sakhalin. The Japanese surrendered on August 15, 1945, less than a week after being nuked, thus ending World War II. Japan was then occupied by the U.S. for seven years until the signing of the Treaty of San Francisco in 1952.

Modern-day Japan

[edit | edit source]

Today, Japan is known for anime and how technologically advanced it is or something.

Culture

[edit | edit source]

Most Japanese people either follow Shintoism or Buddhism. Japan is most relevant to imageboards by its invention of anime and manga, which eventually lead to the creation of imageboards such as 2chan, 4chan, and thus soyjak.party, indirectly.

Reception

[edit | edit source]

Japan is fairly divisive among soyteens. Some soyteens like Japan's culture, media, or cohesive and homogenous society, but others denounce it as a pedo nation for its invention of and obsession with lolicon.
