Singapore is a small country in Southeast Asia, right at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is best known for banning chewing gum and corporal punishment for anticleanliness. Clearly it's only a successful country because it was run by the Chinese, thoughbeit it has a high Tamil population as well.

History[edit | edit source]

Singapore was first colonised by the British in 1819, who constructed a port there; it was further signed over to the British in 1824. In 1942, it was seized from the British by the Japanese who took over all of British Malaya. When Japan surrendered in 1945, it was returned to British rule, but became a self-governing in 1959. In 1963, it chose to annex into Malaysia, because of fear of communist takeover and because it was extremely poor, and because of shared culture and ties with Malaysia. However, because the ruling party, the People's Action Party attempted to run candidates in the 1964 federal elections, this threatened the rule of the United Malays National Organisation who wanted to only prioritise the wellbeing of the Malays, while Lee Kuan Yew of the PAP sought to support the Chinese Singaporeans. By 1965, the Malaysian parliament voted to expel Singapore, separating the country from Malaysia. This probably proved to be a mistake as Singapore became rich while Malaysia remained an impoverished jartycuck shithole.

Lee Kuan Yew's PAP instituted a strict meritocracy to prevent racial conflict, only awarding titles and jobs on skill rather than connections, while taking a strict stance to curb corruption to ensure international corporations would invest in Singapore.
