>snopes?

Snopes is a fact-checking website that soyjaks like to browse, as it is a very important and useful everyday media literacy tool. It is the final arbitrator of all truth regarding anything in the universe.[1]

Due to the insane amount of plebbitors using Snopes for whatever they claimed, it is a very common soyjak trope and has since been ingrained into Sharty culture.

Snopes was a rollable name on soyjak.party.

History

[edit | edit source]

Snopes was created in 1994[a] as the Urban Legends Reference Pages for documenting urban legends and assessing their veracity.[2] It has analyzed many popular urban legends, such as the Headless Fingerboy, summoning Cobson at 3 a.m, and the bigoted conspiracy theory that soy increases estrogen levels in the body.[3] Over the years, Snopes has broadened its scope to discuss a variety of other topics, including fake news, social media posts, memes, etc.

Relation to soyjaks

[edit | edit source]
Snopes badge of compliance with the International Fact-Checking Network.

Snopes had entered soyjak culture around the days of early soyjakking, being particularly enjoyed by the Classic Soyjak specifically. It complemented the themes of Soyjak being obsessed with science and peer-reviewed studies, especially given how much Snopes is enjoyed by Reddit. It has been adopted as part of soy lingo, being used in soyquoting, and it is common to see users of the Party asking "Snopes?" whenever they want proof that something is true, and saying "Snopes fact-checked" as a way to say that something has been confirmed, ironically or not.

Chud criticism

[edit | edit source]
Snopes is related to Agenda 2030Eat every bug (You) see. Live in ze pods to be ze first 4th industrial revolution adapter.

"OWN. NUSSING."

Chuds have accused Snopes of disingenuity and editorial bias when debunking certain content. They assert that Snopes has been paid by ZOG to spread propaganda under the guise of truth in order to subvert the goyim. This notion is especially stressed when they trust the opinions of The Experts or believe information from (((reputable sources))) to be factual in disregard to the possibility that the architects of the New World Order are trying to trick you. This can be seen with their debunking of Covid-19-related information by telling you to take your vaccine, eat ze bugs, and live in ze pod.

Ratings

[edit | edit source]

Snopes has various ways to rate information based on how accurate they are,[4] some of which have been subject of soyjak parodies, as seen below.

Core Truth Ratings

[edit | edit source]
True
This is the highest rating, implying that you are dealing with an objective fact that cannot be denied. The elements of the claim are demonstrably true, based on peer-reviewed studies, do not contradict Science™, and do not promote dangerous bigoted narratives.
Mostly True
The primary elements are true, but at least one ancillary detail is inaccurate or misleading, so the claim should be treated with the grain of soy. The phrase "women give birth" serves as an example: while this is true, be careful not to use it as an anti-transgender argument.
Mixture
Significant elements of the claim are both true and false, making it impossible to characterize cleanly under another label. In other words, the fact-checker has no clue. Note that this does NOT mean you have to do your own research, chud. Wait for objective data from the experts.
Mostly False
Primary elements of the claim are demonstrably false, though an ancillary detail may have some truth to it. This rating (along with "Mostly True") often conflicts with the assessments of other fact-checkers[5], thoughever Snopes itself has determined that Snopes is more objective in its ratings and has no bias whatsoever[6].
False
The primary elements of the claim are demonstrably false. Don't even try to deny it; the claim has been completely and thoroughly deboonked!
