Glitchjak
This soyjak variant gets posted on the 'log less than once a month. |
Glitchjaks are an old, but recently rediscovered soyjak trend wherein the image data of an existing 'jak is corrupted. Glitchjaks are distinguished by their colorful appearance, parts of the 'jak being shifted around, and compression artifacting.[2]
A 'jak may also spontaneously turn into a glitchjak due to cosmic ray bit flips, incomplete saves after editing (usually due to a crash of some kind), or hardware failure.[in which case you should backup your data]
Classification and History[edit | edit source]
Glitchjaks can be subdivided into two different categories: true and false glitchjaks. As a true glitchjak is made by corrupting the image data of a pre-existing 'jak, any alterations that are made within an image editing software (such as glitch effects, filters, etc) would be classified as a false glitchjak.
The first documented true glitchjak was posted onto the booru on March 31st, 2022,[1] a feraljak featuring heavy JPEG compression artifacting and a distinct red hue shift. True Glitchjaks have may been created earlier than this, as lots of early 'ru posts were never fully archived and are heckin' obscure lost media.
Websites[edit | edit source]

patorjk.com[edit | edit source]
The types of effects you're able to produce when glitchjakking are highly dependent on which file format you choose to use:
- .jpg or .jfif[Marge what's a .jfif] produces the most interesting results
- .gif can produce interesting results when corrupting the color data
- .png quite boring
- .webp almost always breaks, not recommended
Once you've chosen a 'jak, go to https://patorjk.com/image-glitcher/ and start messing around, try typing things in the left-most field[c] and see what results (You) get.
The different sections are color coded to which part of the file they correspond with, corrupting the blue Huffman Tables creates colorful glitches that also skew the image, altering the purple Quantization Tables changes the amount of compression the image has.[d]
Should the image become unviewable, you can do Ctrl+Z to undo your last action, or press the reset button under the image to restore it to its original version.
Always download the Visual Image (Approximation) if you intend to post the glitchjak on the sharty, as the raw glitched version may not display on all browsers or will fail to upload.
lyra.horse[edit | edit source]

Also known as "touch your art", https://lyra.horse/arrupted/ allows you to click around on a visual representation of the raw data making up the image instead of typing in raw values. Works very well on gifs.
